Just reading this with great interest.
For what reason would a fuse have been put into 37?

Also I presume the drive charged the air tank' as saint said it would
.

I was wondering why the fuse was in aswell, and yes the drive charged the air tank.Funny thing is i left the engine running for ages on my drive with fuse 37 in and air tank wouldnt charge.

It's just possible that on the L322 putting fuse 37 in not only selects transfer box neutral, but also freezes the suspension for towing. Worth someone with an L322 checking.

And I suspect, but have yet to prove, that it also de-activates the suspension.:)
Not sure on that one....no mention in RAVE about this...

There is a Transportation Mode (High and Low) that can be set using Diagnostics...

i don't remember it inhibiting the suspension to be honest. only remember the gearbox going into tow mode.

you can manually inhibit the EAS anyway via the dash switch.

Hi,

Firstly vehicle details

Range Rover Vogue L322 Diesel 2004 MYR

Can anyone offer any advice on :-

Fault is an intermittent non start issue, enter using fob no problems, turn key, cranks over fine (no battery low voltage issues)....spins over but does not fire up.

I have a Transfer Box Fuse 37 problem and have to do this

Transfer Neutral - in order to get into transfer neutral a fuse is placed in position 37 of the Fuse Box behind the glove box....have a look and ensure there is not fuse in position 37....if there is - Place Gearbox in Neutral, ingnition off, remove fuse, ignition to Position 2, Select a drive range using the Hi-Lo selector, select Park and ignition Off....

My question is if there is a problem with the Transfer Box ECU ,,,,would it cause a Non Start to occur as described ?

I have connected up a Sealy scanner (not the most in depth but its all i had to hand) and got :-

1). CAN BUS Instrument Cluster fault code

2). Brake Verification fault code

Further info :-

If i move the PRNDL up and through the gate (fuse 37 out )..the vehicle will start ok....normally the fault occurs on the first initial start after being left overnight.

Any thoughts on the next step ?

cheers

Hi,

Newbie to the vehicle so please bear with, so there should be NO fuse fitted to 37.... ever ?

thanks for prompt reply

Remove Fuse 37 - as SaS says it is there for towing the vehicle only...

If after playing around with the Gear Selector it starts...my thoughts are with the Gear Selection Switch (usually called the XYZ Switch)....

The system is set not to start if it is in anyother gear selection other than P or N....if the Gear Selection switch is giving false gear position information it may refuse to start...if after a bit of fiddling with the lever (oo er misses) it starts it could be the selector switch faulty - they have been known to get covered in crud as the early versions are external to the box!

Check that the ignition switch is passing the full 12 volts, it's a known failure item.

Hi,

Thanks for the confirmation of Fuse 37, i will remove it and then investigate the intermittent non start...I don't think that the inhibit switch is the fault because it Always cranks over (in P & N), Its as if there is an immobiliser circuit that has cut in! e.g. an ignition cut or a fuel pump/ fuel shut off solenoid that is turned off....or maybe it has a data line to the Engine ECU that has " fell over ".

On the possible ign switch failure ..is it a conventional hardwired ign switch ..i can test the output if yes ?

cheers for all the help guys, much appreciated

Make sure both keys are working fine etc...

If the transponder chip has become dislodged in the fob casing then it might not be making good contact between the ignition switch which will immobilise the engine from starting. It will stop any cranking of the engine.

It always cranks over, the engine does'nt fire...so i don't think its a key problem, but will try the spare and see if it makes any difference, cheers

Okay I see

So it sounds like an immobiliser of some sort inhibiting the engine

Have you got access to any diagnostics equipment ?

This was after to fault occured,,i was hoping to get engine or immobiliser codes but, this maybe down to the Sealy scanner not being up to the job ?

On the ign switch possible failure ...ref Datatek reply

Any ideas on how to get to the switch/wiring, it looks buried in the centre console ?

cheers

Yes you will need to get access to the ignition switch in the console to measure the voltage across the switch

But I would try and get your car on some better diagnostics first to see what else could be causing your problems

Yes i agree, i don't want to start tearing the car down ...i'll see if i can get a more in depth diagnostic scanner on it first, get some more info ...i'll let you know how i get on

cheers
