I appear to have an intermittent problem with the traction control system on my
Freelander 2 which is 3.5 years old. After starting the engine and it has checked its systems, it comes up with the message that there is a traction control problem. It warns that traction in some road conditions may be reduced. This first happened about a 2 months ago, and happened each time the engine was started, or happened after about 30 seconds. Then the fault suddenly disappeared and no warnings appeared. This normal condition continued until for about 1 month, but today on starting the engine the fault diagnosis reappeared. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience, and even more interested to hear how the fault can be resolved. If I decide to live with the fault, is there any damage being caused by delaying a remedy. Its nice to have this facility but its not something
I need on a regular basis, I would prefer to put off a repair when I can better afford it.

You need to get the fault codes read. My guess is you will have P1889-14 stored which is the most common problem with "Traction reduced" displayed.
If it is the case you have P1889-14 you will need a new active on demand coupling pump (not too expensive) and a software update for the rear diff control module.
LRO 75763 is the part number for the pump. But don't just rush of and fit a pump, ask the seller to check bulletins (LTB00795v2) and see if yours is in the vin range.
There are other issues with this problem but as I say this is the most common.

Many thanks for your informative reply to my query. Not sure what you mean by "ask the seller" , or your reference to the vin code. Which seller would you perhaps recommend, I live in Derby. Apart from the main dealer, Hunters in Derby (£95/hour) there 2 specialists (£70/hour) in Derby and one in Wirksworth. With regard to the vin num do you mean the part num you quote may not relate to the age of my car (as indicated by the vin num). Sorry to show my non-technical knowledge but your help will be really appreciated.

Sorry, by seller I mean seller of the pump, I would ring DLS in Wirksworth and ask them to read the fault codes and then if P1889-14 is stored check the bulletin to see if your vehicle is within the VIN range. As I said it could be other things causing the problem but I am sure Nick or Paul at DLS have dealt with this issue before.
