Alignment is a dark art....you can have the best machines in the world but if you dont know what your doing and you dont understand angles etc...you might as well work at ATS:)

If you know your onions it can be done with a tape measuse and spirit level:)

Its all about understanding the angles....those machines are suposed to make it easy for the uneducated. But like in the case of ATS no amount of 10k machinery can educate them....
 
that means either that I can't drive and take every pothole I get or the guys doing the tracking are a bit cr...but as far as I understand you guys would more or less rule out another defect or..?
 
Yep. I have a trackace. It only works on 2 wheels. With parallel lines you can use it to set-up the rears too so they're the correct angle apart as well as parallel to the Freelander. Easier when doing the fronts if the rears are ok. If it steers to one side after the trackace, alter both sides to compensate then check with trackace then test drive again. Parallel lines below. Worked ok for me. :)

hippo you should be doing it as a business charge about £30-40 a time and you will soon make your money back
 
sorry but tbh wouldn't waste my money how can that aligne properly, you need to clamp steering wheel,have car on 100% flat surface, weight load the car (ref-autodata), 4 lasers/guages round it & sitting on turnplates.if your tyres are wearing even(no feathering on either edge) your track is fine

You don't need all that gear...... It just makes it quicker and easier and FYI the correct 'loading' is empty but with a full tank of fuel. ( at least that's what landrover specify for the freelanders)
