Hi,

I am due to take my P38 automatic to the garage tomorrow, can I tow it in the conventinal way i.e. with a rope or a bar, as I have been told today that it might not be possible

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I need to take it just over 15 miles mainly on the dual carriage way, but im wary of causing more damage.

Im already dreading the bill

i dont think your ment to tow any auto car over 25 mph as the oil isn't getting pumped around he gearbox with out the engine running.

saying that i have done it and had no probs but when my mates p38 over heated i picked it up on my trailer to be save.

Thats why you put the xfer box in neutral... autobox doesn't move then!

very dangerous to tow with fuse 11 out and it wont drive with fuse 11 in cos it gives you a message on the dash!!!!

you can tow it no probs, put fuse 11 in to put the transfer box in neutral and then select neutral on the shift. i think max towing speed is 30mph.

thats correct,

mine was fine at more than 30 but it was a short distance, less than a mile!!

will the engine run as there will be no steering, its very hard to steer the p38 without the pump assisting!!

this is from the rave manual for your info:

Towing the vehicle on four-wheels
If it is necessary to recover the vehicle by
towing on all four wheels, select transfer
neutral as follows:
• With the starter key removed, insert a fuse
(5 amps or greater) in fuse position 11 in
the right hand seat fuse box. Insert key
and turn the starter switch on; the transfer
box will automatically select neutral (wait
until the message centre displays
’TRANSFER NEUTRAL’), then turn the
starter switch off.
• Turn the starter switch to position ’I’ to
unlock the steering and leave in this
position while the vehicle is being towed.
• To re-engage HIGH or LOW range after
towing, turn the starter switch off, remove
the fuse from position 11, then turn the
starter switch on - the transfer box will
engage the HIGH or LOW gear range
(depending on the position of the gear
selector lever).
NOTE: If, due to an accident or electrical
fault, it is considered unsafe to turn the starter
switch, the battery must be disconnected.

evening all

well put a 10 amp fuse in #11, box in N and it towed like a dream 15 miles on a19 with a bar.

the only real downside was my mate was towing me with his pajero, when two blokes in a disco3 went past pointing and laughing:(, must get those windows tinted
