I will have a look in the morning, I will only look because it is running fine at the moment. I will also get the numbers of the chip in glove box.

To look at the ECU you will have to remove the PCB from the case. If your car is running ok i would leave it for another time. Remember Murphy's law.

I dont believe in tempting fate so will leave it alone and hope it keeps going with no problems, I might try to find the last but one owner to see if it has been chipped and with what.

If there is a chip in the glove box odds on it will have been. If you ring one of the tuning firms and quote the part number on the spare chip they maybe able to give you some info. Nephews P38 diesel has a spare chip in a box in the car if i can think on will ask him to get the numbers off it. It has been chipped as far as we know.

Looked at the chip, if they are normally soldered in this one has not been. The numbers on it are as follows
1 037 351 254
0 281 001 677
Does that make any sense to anyone? As I said not going to touch anything as it is running ok at the moment, just interested to know what it is.

Put the chip number into Google search and see what you can find.

0 281 001 677 is ECU bosch part number for newer engine with EGR,
1 037 351 254 is software version.

Buying a 99 diesel auto tomorrow, solely to tow one horse in a horse trailer, never towed with an auto, will find out soon ! Have had a 96 manual Disco for the last 5 years, never let me down once, mind, only done 12k miles in that time

A lot easier than towing with a manual.

Looks like the original chip has been changed, hold it on the brakes, take it up to over 1900 revs and see if you can tear the tyres off it.:D

Thought I had read this on the forum, clearly not what I will do if you say it would stress the box

The sport mode holds the gears longer so they are changed at higher RPM. That will put undue load on the sprag clutches.

Do i take it your bronzed god status has been restored. :D:D
Hi Tony, yes I'm back. Had rain in the middle week but the weather was perfect the other two. Come back to find one of my best mates had died and been buried while I was away. Advise to everyone, make everyday count.:(
