Hi all, wasnt sure where to post this , so if its in the wrong section plz feel free to delete .....

Recently bought a 1998 2.0 diesel freelander ( 5 door 50th anniversary model ) and found an issue whilst towing, without the caravan on the back it drives beautiful in all gears / at all speeds but as soon as i hook up the wobble box i find i have to double tap the throttle in ALL gears in order for it to move ?? depress the throttle once and vehicle just has a total loss of power and goes no-where , lift foot off throttle and depress 2nd time and vehicle pulls like a train and drives as normal ........ any help would be much appreciated .

Thanks

Fascinating. How does it pull full of people? You would think any heavy load would create same symptoms. Can only think mass air flow sensor not reacting fast enough to you putting your foot down hard. Just thinking out loud.

Hi Al2O3. drove it so skegvegas today with 3 adults , a dog & luggage .... car drove beautiful with no throttle issues at all ....... meant to mention in my original post that the throttle only mis-behaved in this way on the outbound journey , the return journey (again with the van on ) the car drove perfect with no issues ?? puzzled

Hmm, van on the back could well be a coincidence then. Dicky sensor on the loud pedal. Not sure how they are set up, are they ECU managed. May be jumping the gun, just realised 98 plate.

Sounds like just a coincidence to me.

does it do it with the electrics disconnected ?

might also be worth try a recalibrate on the throttle pedal, ignition on (but not started) press the pedal 5 times, ignition off.

good luck

It only did it towing the van on outward journey ..... towed the van with no issues on return journey
