FFS it's in section 19 & 22 of the C&U (Construction and Use) Regulations. Do you not read anything??

the cops have never bothered me while towing scrappers to the scrap yard when they are on a towing bar or A frame as long as the tyres are legal. ;)

I thought a vehicle being towed on an A frame was classed as a trailer as it does not require anyone to be sitting in it.

Andy.

Correct.
Therefore, if it weighs more than 750Kg it must be braked.
There aint many cars that weigh less than 750Kg!

Just cos you get away with it doesn't mean it's legal. Not knowing the rules isn't a defence either. Not many people know or are bothered about the laws relating to towing but they're there for a reason. Amazed me the number of trailers I saw for sale on ebay where the seller had said"the brakes were playing up so I've taken them off". So many nasty accidents out there just waiting to happen.

what about those people who tow their fiesta on an A bar behind a camper van, is that ilegal

No there is only one car that is legal to tow on an AFrame and it's a tiny French microcar with a GRP bodyshell..

It is possible to link the towed car's brakes into the towing vehicle, thus making it legal. Expensive though.
