Just posted this in the welcome section, advised to come here as maybe torque converter is the issue.
Hi all
I'm Steve from plymouth currently in the Royal Navy.
I bought a Auto TD5 04 Landmark Disco last year, 95K on the clock, good condition however things have taken a turn for the worst and I am lost.
Disco just had oil change, gearbox service, loom changed, new ball joints and rear air bags changed plus a load of other bits and bobs.
However...it started to produce a noise at 2k-2500k like a low rumbling sound and vibration, took it to an army engineer who plugged it into his laptop and said everything was fine...when it starts (sometimes) hot and cold if I floor the accelerator it crawls along for around 5 secs barely moving then all of a sudden flys. Then last week I was going on the motorway and no power, barely got into 3rd gear but the engine was screaming, uphill I can reach about 30 and it crawls, if I pull over stop and start it kinda resets itself but next to no power.
I checked the ecu red plug and there was oil so cleaned it all out and changed the loom again, also checked the ATF, when I undid the filler plug to suck some atf it came pouring out, most of the guides said you'd get around 2 litres but I had more than that out of the filler plug then another 2 litres from the sump drain. I removed the sump, new filter, gasket and fluid.
Also put a straight pipe on but that's really irrelevant at this stage ha ha.
anyway since doing that things are a little better but still get the rumbling sound and lack of power, sounds sweet at idle but almost feels like a slipping clutch on a manual.
I've had the bonnet open stationary and revved it and the intercooler hose isn't collapsing.
Any ideas...please help me, I'm at a loss as what to try next.
