... Its returned like someone elses car. I was pround of how well the eas etc worked the car would hold pressure over a full week, the pump rarely ran, thought i had a good one.

Heard a hiss bought an air bag and took it in, they reset the eas, fitted the bag and had to fit a new height sensor. But now the pump runs constantly only stopping for ten seconds and then going again! I took it in and they found a leak.

Ok so its better but thepumpis still running a lot more than it ever did. My main question is why now does the car rises up after being stopped and parked for ten mins? Shouldnt it hold its pressure like it did a week ago? I dont remember the car lifting back and front in the mornings. Any ideas?

Dan (ps i did a search but couldnt find anything on p38 lifts etc)

Is it parked on level ground with all 4 wheels same height? If so try the soapy water leak test.

Wonder how they changed the air-line over where it goes into the air-spring? Some people say cut it but Datatek pointed out there is a bulge at the end in his and I can confirm there is on mine too. Cutting that off might have unintended consequences.

Think Wammers did a good article on the EAS system too. Worth checking that.

Parked and engine off - the only movement the car do is downwards, the system is designed to lower the car to it's lowest corner when you close the dorr and then every 6 hours....

If yours is going up - you have a leak in the valve block somewhere causing tank air to leak into the bags and raising the car...

Sorry i wasnt too clear. When i get in the car and start it up it lifts. Im sure it never used to.

That means it settled to the lowest corner and when you switch on it raises to the preset height. If its raising from access height from one night its a big leak or fault if it only raises an inch or so its fine. Although check and service tour height sensors

They usually level a little when you start up as the car will self level down every 6 hours when parked. If it's going down a lot then there is a leak, most probably from the airline to airbag connection as it's been replaced. However if the height sensor has also been replaced, it should have been re-calibrated. If it hasn't that may also cause a problem.
As a general rule, never replace one airbag, the very least is a pair on the same axle. If one has failed the others will also be on their last legs, the design life is 7/8 years 80K miles so you may well have another airbag leaking.

Dan,

Did you take it back to the garage when you found the EAS problem?

I've heard good reviews about them and have used them myself.

I had an engine problem and they replaced the camshaft (the hardening process hadn't worked on one of the cams and had worn flat - I have the old camshaft at home as a reminder!!) and had the heads skimmed. It runs like a new car now, so I am well pleased.

What make cam failed? OEM, Britpart etc? Were the lifters new and what make were they. Questions questions! :D

Steve,

the engine had only done 45K so it was the original camshaft.

Nothing else was damaged or needed replacing.
