Inexperianced as I am can any body have a look at these pics of my rotting boot and tell me if it is bad in comparison with other Disco1`s, there is one hole near the back and a few more scabs here and there, round seat belt anchors is scabby but solid ,whole lot has been treated with "Kurust" which is awesome, could i paint it with hamerite now the rust is dead or will Mr welder be calling:confused:

thats in pretty good nick attually ........ seen them completly rotten out just patch the holes with a welder and decent guage plate ...........

Just patch it, that's what I'm doing at the moment. If it's got a hole in it or you can make a hole in it with a little hammer and is within 12" of something important (seatbelt mounting, chassis, suspension mountings etc) it'll fail.

hwo is an mot tester gonna see the boot floor from underneath , and is he gonna pull all the carpets up too
 
remove the boot floor and put a new one in its place before the rot spreads further !

thats very good really for a boot floor but personally i would replace it as the rot is going to get worse, even rust treatments wont stop that rust/rot from spreading.

Fair comment, I meant in general really; if you stick to what I said you can't go far wrong. Personally I think it'd pass at that but why not sort it anyway, discos have enough leaks as it is....
 
If ya wanna stop the rot get yaself into Mole valley farmers (other farmers supply depots are available) and get a stable mat. half the weight of the LR sponge Non porus so won't soak up water and only £30ish for a 8ftx4ft sheet.
 
Yes he is, but he's only interested in 12" surrounding the rear seat belt mount, and if its patched with a piece of metal continuously welded to close up a corrosion hole, its acceptable. There's a bit of debate on whether the boot floor is an MoT fail - in theory it is, because its <12" from a 'prescribed area' - the rear seat belt mounts. In practice, most of the strength is due to the bracket which goes directly to the chassis, although the boot floor cross braces it too so it does have some bearing on things. Plenty of threds with opinons on both sides, though, no doubt somewhere!

He can't take carpets up though. So unless it's obvious from underneath, he can't do squat. & my view has always been floor int structural so no failing On account of fact sealbelt mount passes thru floor and is not dependent on floor for it's strength. Other thing to worry about is wheel arch seatbelt anchorage. As he could fail it if it's within 12" of that.
