Hi all

Anyone else watching the Rangie in Fleabay, an '02 L338 DHSE at £8250 and no bids?
Highish miles but not star trek stuff.
It's had Cat C repairs but looks v clean and tidy.

It's item 260607225815.

Cheers

Its advertised as a TDV6 but the L322's are a straight 6, other than that looks like a lot of car for the money.

Yet another RR owner who doesn't know what he owns. Even includes a picture of a straight 6 engine!

Hi Spud

I agree the details look iffy. His feedback looks ok, and he's sold a landy before.

I have a disco 1 v8 and need to replace it. I test drove a P38 diesel and was amazed at how gutless it was. I see you have a RR p38. Do you know how much difference the chipping makes?

Regards
Terry

Hi Terry

Since September 2009 the account has been active, only six transactions are sales on his behalf including a 1998 LR 90. The rest are his purchases.

Motor looks all right just shame he doesn't know a straight 6 from a v6

Shame

I took my chip out to see what difference it made. I didn't drive 1km when I stopped and put it back in:eek: It was gutless!! IMHO they are un-driveable un-chipped.
Chipped they are perfectly acceptable once warmed up. I actually really like it, I think its a lovely engine and once you get used to the power curve it is more than quick enough. I was driving an E200 auto merc for a while when the head gasket went in mine after buying it and the P38 would eat it for speed so they're not as slow as you think. Also been testing people carriers lately for the wife and again when I get back into the P38 it feels downright fast.
I think once you buy with your eyes open and leave the rose tinted specs at home before you view they can be one of the most rewarding cars to own this side of a 911 or something with a prancing animal of some sort on the front.

Thanks for the info Spud.
Are the P38's as unreliable as people say?
I test drove a Mitsubishi Shogun 3.2 Diesel Equippe which was fine but uninspiring (not to say boring) but did have reasonable performance.
I'm past the stage of doing anything major myself. Any idea what it costs to replace the air springs and/or compressor as it seems to be a regular failure.

IMHO if you can't DIY forget it and get Jap reliability. The P38 is great but needs plenty of TLC.

Thanks for the honest reply. My wife is inclined to agree with that approach, as you can imagine.
I may well hang on to the Disco V8 as a second car if I can get it through an MOT, just to keep a Landy in my life.
Cheers

Had my P38 chipped (Rimmer Power Box) shortly after buying it five years ago, never regreted it. Converted it to springs too, about two years back. Initially it seemed like a different ride, but soon got used to it - and to the fact that it can only sag on one corner if a shock goes (in the middle of nowhere). It is virtually undrivable when it collapses onto its rubber suspension stops with a failed air system, and you'd better not have eaten 'cus it'll shake you to bits for the few miles you can stand it. No, at circa £120 each for each corner sensor and £600 quid for a complete valve block (can't replace them individually) I'd not spend time or money (loads of it) if it starts to play up in this area. I don't usually pay for jobs to be done, but I indulged myself on this one and paid £600 to have the spring conversion ('Footloose', Peterborough). I think it sits up better on springs, though you can no longer lower its height for granny to climb in.
I think you have to be prepared to do a certain amount with a vehicle like this, if only servicing (oils etc.), but I know what you mean about not wanting to balance gear boxes on your head any more (not that you could with these).
Year 2000 on seem to be more reliable in the electronics department (a notorious source of frustration.
To me, it's a Landrover, a Range Rover at that, and it has to be worth it.

Don't know where you get your prices from, height sensors are around £60, valve blocks can be overhauled for a few dollars. The EAS is reliable if looked after:D
