Good job mine is a five door 😝

They do a 5 door kit too !!!

The tomb raider body kit myth all started around 10 years ago on eBay. Some Idiot was selling a kit taken off of his 1998 vehicle and I was curious to know why he was calling it a tomb raider kit. He said he thought land rover had called it that. So I put him straight . However he never changed the listing title and it sold for good money, which I believe was due to the tomb raider title and uneducated buyers believing they were buying Into the tomb raider brand. Ever since then every muppet selling one has called it by this name. Some have even got nasty after I've pointed out these kits have been around since the beginning of freelander production which was a few years before the first Tomb Raider film. Unfortunately I think this will now be the name they will be forever known by as it's now become synonymous with the body kit.

HI

I have just got my hands on a Tomb Raider body kit for my freelander 1 td4 (3 dr).

However, it has come with no instructions

Can any one help me out please? :high5:

regards

You mean the 3dr sports body styling kit?

In all the brochures, its listed as 'dealer fit only' you'll have to remove the standard arches and align the screws where the existing plastic jobbies are!

Are there any more pictures of this kicking around. I googled and could find nothing... I can feel a replica coming on
Yeah here post 14

The pic is from p59 ' You and your, Land Rover Freelander, buying maintaining, modifying' by James Taylor ISBN 1 85960 899 X, the captain claims the tomb raider FL was displayed in Land Rover Gear shop, Xscape centre, Milton Keynes

NI is right. It's the body styling kit. Looks orrible. Not many have it.

Page 72 says hungary made some limited edition tomb raider FL1's. Doesn't have numbers though.

the styling kit, looks ok I think IMHO, but you need big rims and low profile tyres to set it off!
an optional extra but most early V6's had them fitted, 4 catalogue numbers in the brochures!

I was thinking of making one out of a section of corrugated tin!!! rust anorl, for the mad max look!!

Totally agree. The reality is yer can't improve on perfection. The Freelander just can't get betterer.

Ahh I missed that bit, I reckon it was just a few bits of tread plate on the sills and bonnet, with the odd shovel strapped to the side?
I would assume it's largely based on a standard production Freelander with a few bolt/stick on mods. Nothing drastic which would cost a lot. Not sure if it would look like the pic in the book. Perhaps a lesser version of that due to cost. In all the years I've been Freelandering I've never come across one.

have you never seen one ? in real life it really does look like a few bits of corrugated plastic bolted on badly ,freelander is like all lr models best of its class:)

Not exactly. There's no need to remove the existing arches
Just the screws. The kit was fitted like this by Land Rover. Most dealers used double sided body tape and/or tiger seal. My mate has broken a few 50th editions over the years. Also spoke to an ex main dealer mechanic who said they stopped using tiger seal early on as it was hard to remove the excess and sometimes the door panels would sag when they were left over night waiting for the tiger seal to cure and end up being ruined as it is tough to get off. A good quality tape is all they used in the end. Any chav body kit suppliers should be able to help sourcing good tape. You only need to drill a hole in underneath each corner of the bumper for the 4 bumper pieces. If you take off your arches first then the kit arches will locate incorrectly.

So they just slap on top of the existing arches? Yet again another sh!te design by LR.............. tacky extraordinare!!

I would have thought they align with the yellow plastic poppers, and the plastic lugs would be used as a pilot hole for the screws (size 6 self tapper)

So, can you get me any tiger seal ? :p

Here Spidey (which in NI, Spide is another name for chav btw ;) )

The styling kit needs a huge spoiler and front splitter to go with it lol :) and it only counts if you get mud on it

We wanna see some before and after pics, :pop2:

You can get sticky-back plastic that looks like tread plate.
Why not just get some of that and stick it on?
Probably last longer ;)
