Just thought i'd say - I've just spoken to the DVLA and the woman there didn't think there was any need to go through an SVA, said that I can wait for my V5 to come through then write down the changes on that (engine + Chassis) and that it will then have a local DVLA test (not IVA/SVA) and then should all be fine.

Happy to try and take that approach!

Have taken her name and team by way of evidence of changes being made

Did you explain to her that your car doesn't contain a single part of the car stated on the v5 :scratching_chin:

You will not 'be fine'. Your insurance will not cover you as it is not a 1975 series...its whats known in the profession as a 'dogs dinner'.

Get the chassis number (haha) if you can find it on the front drivers side chassis leg, behind the front wheel..and compare it to the chassis number register here..

Land Rover VIN Checker Land Rover One Ten: Land Rover One Ten Blog

This will tell you exactly what your vehicle is not..or is...or is supposed to be.

To close this down - have spoken to the DVLA twice and VOSA and does indeed need to go through the SVA (Commercial - IVA is for non personal vehicles).

The fact it has a second hand chassis means it instantly goes on a Q plate as well.

I need to re-register it (they send you the pack) then the local DVLA office will contact for an inspection and next steps, then it gets the big test then it gets passed.

Hope that helps anyone else who has questions on it too.

DVLA - 03007906802, agonisingly painful phone system but nothing else for it.

Thanks for some of the helpful comments and especially TMH for the links, final question is does anyone know some decent Q plate insurers!! - I've got Adrian Flux but anymore suggestions welcome

Why?

if the work has been done propper, it shud fly thru - we keep saying they are mechano kits.....

Why go to all that trouble of rebuilding a "90" and then putting it on series 3 plates? Surely if it was a legitimate 90 you would keep it on the original plates, there's no reason not to.

Just my opinion :)

I think yu missed the point - he bought it like that..... and it will be Q plated after the SVA. he wants to make it legal, if he can.

Yep - TMHM has it right , just want to make legit - basically bought it from a kid in the trade who always drove it on trade insurance and never got stopped because he lived in the middle of nowhere yorkshire, if half of it's nicked he'd be increably dumb to sell it on having taken me to his house, given me his phone number and told me the name of his business - no accounting for fools though.

Regarding selling for spares; had thought about it but basically I've bought it for £1200 and have been told by the garage that once legal and paper work in place should get significantly more - if anyone totally disagree then let me!

Obviously depends on passing the test - First indications from Challenger suggest it all looks good though.

Im not trying to burst your bubble, but i can speak from experience here.

forget the "advice" given by DVLA, they lie.

I bought a 3 door Disco 5 years ago, similar thing. Eventually i had to break it for spares as the identity could not be established. The body, chassis and engine were from completely different vehicles, they wouldnt even put it on a Q plate because the percentage has to be X amount of the original or donor vehicle to be Q plated.

Good luck, but i lost out on mine.

Oh, i also bought from a genuine guy.....went to his house......etc etc.

hey if you think his genuine after finding out his made a ringer with no series 3 bits on thats up to you....:pop2:

doesnt mean its made of stolen parts, i plus every body else used to make vehicles up out of parts for customers who wanted whatever as there ideal landy a few years ago i preume most are still around somewhere

i am planning to build a series 3 onto a shortened and modified disco chassis with the disco runnig gear and engine, both vehicles are proper and totaly standard as they sit and i have the log books for them both with matching numbers on them all...

what would i be doing to make it right, or can i keep it reg'd as an s3 and just inform dvle of engine change and insurers of modifications?

You can't register it as a Series III, because there are not enough series III parts on it to qualify as such even if you mounted the body on a standard Disco chassis. Because you are going to be using a modified chassis, you won't be able to register it as a discovery either. So it looks like it going to have to be Q plated. See here for more info.
