Hi Willos, This guy knows these engines and explains how to do it. scroll forward to about 18.33, it is a BMW but is the M62 engine. Hope this helps.I have the kit for the tensioner. I've opened it and its compressed into a neat size. do you install it like this or do you let it extend then install. I can remember a thread on this but cannot find it. Thanks

Good to see you around Ant, hope all is well with you and yours, the kids must be growing up now.Timm is a good chap, access on the M62 in the L322 is easier than on the E31 8'er but still a faff....
What'ho Keith. Still pop in now and then - no excuses but life is busy as it is for most of us.....unless you are retired....except if retired with a small holding in France that is!!Good to see you around Ant, hope all is well with you and yours, the kids must be growing up now.
Good to hear all is well, your expertise is sorely missed when you are absent. What'ho Keith. Still pop in now and then - no excuses but life is busy as it is for most of us.....unless you are retired....except if retired with a small holding in France that is!!
Kids are really growing up fast - Summer is now 8 and Jacob is 4...starts school in September...where has that time gone?
I hope all is still well with you and yours and the P38 is still going strong.
I am trying to be on the site more and contribute more and really do hope I can soon, but I do still pop in to keep an eye on the rabble.
You're too kind - I just post about my own experiences and from what I have learnt from listening to those around me such as your good self and those more knowledgable than me!Good to hear all is well, your expertise is sorely missed when you are absent.
All good here but too darn hot to do much at the moment so P38 play time in the barn
Groovy - like I said - it can be done extended and is the method I used that way I *knew* it was extended and correctly positioned....but yes it took an age and having to put considerable pressure on it while getting the threads started was a faff....Thanks for the replies. Well it’s in and I put it in unextended. It was easy to do. I used a 19mm ratchet spanner from the front of the engine as a socket was too tight. Could only make 2 clicks at a time but it only took 10 mins and I’ve seen and heard folks taking a couple of hours extended and needing to hold it tight on and turn at the same time. I’ll start her up in the morning and get back to you either good or bad news
