Got a couple question for all you experts or self-proclaimed experts...

1) Should I take the head off or put it all back together and see if it works first?
2) if a tappet or valve is damaged do i run the risk of causing more damage to the motor if I try to start it?

Removing head is safest option if you have good facilities and tools, else you might have to suck it n see. It might be enough to get you to a proper workshop. It is unusual for valves to be damaged.

I take it you got the stud out !:) If you get it timed up CORRECTLY then I would take a chance & run it up you aint got a lot to lose !:rolleyes: & if it runs ok then your on a winner :) & if it dunt:oops::oops: then you will have to take it to bits:mad::mad::mad: & sort it :p

OK thanks.. that kinda answers that as I have neither all the tools or goo facilities... we are in a parking lot that gets rained on once or twice a day (torrential downpours) if I take the head off I need new bolts and gasket according to the manual...

That is exactly what I need to know... if I do start it up and it runs well and smooth then there is "definitely" nothing else wrong e.g. no vent valves or anything else?
 
Gary when it went BANG:eek::oops: It bent the weakest part of the motor / push rods !:oops: So with New rods & timed up correct & tappets set up right with a bit of LUCK you should have a running motor without to many pops & bangs (only kidding ) :rolleyes:

Well I got the bolt out, was much tighter than I thought it would be, and a lot more of it was in the cam also... never the less it's out and we just now need the parts to arrive.

I will hope for a bit of luck and if we don't have any I hope we can limp to the land rover mechanic that's 2 hrs away...
 
Just put you feet up & wait 4 the bit's to turn up :rolleyes: It will all come good in the end:)

Anyone have a part number or bolt size for the camshaft pully retaining bolt, Ive searched a while online and checked in the manuals but they don't have the part numbers... Anyone have an exploded diagram of the cam with part numbers?
