My dad's 300TDi Disco has been making a bit of noise from the crank pulley/TVB, stripping it down it's clear why. The dog nut was more or less loose so the pulley has been chattering about. Luckily he brought it to me early so the woodruff key is slightly battered (will be replaced anyway) and fortunately the keyway has took little damage, and is only marginally oversized.

I was talking to a friend at my old dealership, who was saying that Land Rover workshop now actually recommends threadlocking the key in the keyway, the damper onto the crank and also the dog nut into the crank.

Now I know that the dog nut needs to be done up FT around 200lb.ft, but has anyone had any experience of threadlocking a damper onto the crank, on any engine?

That's my concern. I know that a well stuck damper is hard to extract at the best of times, even with a quality puller.

i have repaird dadly worn key holes with liquid metal before now. take the key out just before it goes off then shape it when its dry. lock tight is **** to get stuff back off
