A power box up's it to 160 Bhp, a remap to quite a lot more.
But as you say, on an old engine................ then again only if you boot it all the time.

Yeah as Clarkson said a few weeks back "you don't have to use all of it all the time" :)
It's nice to have for those times though

222Bhp for the 4.6 and the chipped diesel can do 180Bhp, so yes not quite up there but certainly not slow, as for torque 380Nm for the 4.6 and something like 350Nm for the diesel chipped which is why it chews the ZF4HP22.
As for noise, apart from at idle the engine is inaudible on mine, none of that nasty V8 rumbling uneven beat that can be felt as well as heard.:)

V8 sounds and fells great IMO:):):)

The diesel is always noisy, yes you may only hear it inside cabin with windows closed at idle and acceleration,
but trust me no one is in doubt listening from outside under all circumstances:eek:

Never ending discussion this one:):):):) But I'm right:cool:

Interestingly, there were plans to put a BMW V12 (from the 750 and 850) into the P38, but development effort was spent on the forthcoming L322 instead.

That V12 put out 280ish bhp if memory serves and would have made the P38 a properly quick bit of kit.

We can only ponder what a V12 P38 would have been like, though we can be sure the diesel boys would still think it was purely for "posing"...

I would love to have a go in the 6.3 overfinch P38. I read this gives out 400bhp?
TBH though, i've never wanted more power from my 4.6. Remembering this is over 2 tonnes of elevated 4x4 things could get out of hand with too much power to play with.
Just done a 900 mile trip to the south coast & back, 4 adults, 2 dogs & an obscene amount of luggage.:( The point with these engines is that they are built for pulling, not off-the-mark acceleration. I cant say i noticed any lack in power with all the weight i was carrying, just the usual effortless drive i expect from my V8.:)
