Too much money for something without a test in my opinion. Have a look to see if there's a local land rover club , and get someone to eyeball it. it could be all right, but it could also be a bag of rust. I drove all the way to Dublin years ago to look at a "good one" and turned around after 30 seconds of looking at a ruin.

so ive been reading and reading all evening.. and it seems there is no end to the trouble you can get from these bad boys.. however the problem is i still want one.. i will leave it a while and read about here,, maybe the right one will crop up at some stage.. i would ideally like to find one that need some bit of work as its something id likw to do,, patching and welding in the odd bit here and there isnt an issue once it doesnt get out of hand.. anyway hopefully something ideal comes my way t some stage.. just out of interest here is a list of the majority of landrovers from 1996 or older does any of them stand out as a good buy https://www.donedeal.ie/cars/Land Rover/?year_to=96

Reading and researching before you buy is good. :D Don't worry, whatever you get will need lots of work.

@davidreid, if you don't no where to look when buying, there are plenty guides on the Internet to help you along. Bit too far for me to have a look with you. Do you definitely want a 90? There are plenty auctions selling ex esb 110,s. Some are battered and bruised but can be picked up for decent money. If you don't want a concourse 90 then I'd offer no more than e1500. That way you can spend a few bob getting it through the test. Second hand parts are very hard to find over here so expect to spend a lot on postage for spares from UK. Your not a complete novice repairing motors but even the best get caught out;). I look at done deal all the time and every so often a looker comes up so don't get desperate and learn to walk away. If it was a farm vehicle, it will have mud and ****e stuck in hard to get to places slowly eating away at it. Town vehicles are usually better. Good luck.

If you want something that will be easy to work on and a good base for modding the Ex Military 110 would be something I would take a look at. 2.5 NA diesel is bomb proof but gutless and slow, seller says the chassis is good (I wouldn't take their word for this), its a rag top (I like rag tops) and its military so no frills and very basic. It would need work, its been driven by squaddies so its been thrashed, it doesn't have power steering so that would have to be fitted, mine was manual steering for a while and it was hard work. Paint is tired but its camo and easy to repaint if needs be, basically its a bog standard landy that hasn't been faffed around with. Registration though sounds a bit dodgy.

because if its over 20 years of age here you can get classic insurance.. this wont be a daily driver and i pay enough for insurance on my car.. also i like older vehicles..

Says the man with an immaculate example!!!
It's tidy, but not immaculate.

I'm still wondering what he is going to be doing with it that he can be worried about spoiling a 22 yr old Defender. Or, did he mean it looked in too good a nick, cos he wanted more to do in terms of restoring it? I just didn't understand what he meant.

What on earth are you planning on doing with it! It is a trattor after all ;)
