i know what you mean and thanks for the warning .. but the price was negotiable and he was at 2700 without me even asking.. id say 2000 would buy it..
i can weld and sand blast if needs be as well as other things as a qualified fitter turner and im not thick.. once its not in to bad of condition once i know the hidden things to look for ill get through it and keep another landy on the road hopefully

He might be the nicest guy in the world mate but buying that blind really isn't a good idea, at all.
Contact the Ireland Land Rover club, look for them on face book, someone there will help you out.

i wouldnt buy it blind mate.. this is an online site for advertising only sales cant be done through it.. thanks for the heads up on those sites i will look into them

He didn't come down that kind of money for nothing fella, really , contact a few local land rover clubs, plenty of them on face book. We could tell you what to look for but its hard unless someone is there with you.
 
When I bought mine I wasn't too clued up, seller told be it needed outriggers.

It took a lot of money and a lot of time to put that right, its was too far gone for welding, there was nothing to weld to. So my advice would be to let this ride, wait , save money, buy the right vehicle, you will be glad you did when you do find the right one.

Best of luck with it mate - make part of your project popping over here (it is cheap enough for you € boys) - there will be no end of people who would be happy to meet you and show you round their Landy.
 
If you are considering a resto then you need to have a think (research) about the level of resto you want to achieve and what your budget is. Then get a balance between the two. ie what you can achieve with the budget you have.
Do you want to restore it and keep it or sell it to cover your costs, sell it at a loss for the fun of the resto are things you need to consider.
TBH the Landy you are looking at wouldn't be something I would invest in. If you go post 1990 you would get something with a 200Tdi engine in it, post 1994 and you get a 300Tdi, either is far more desirable than the vehicle you are looking at IMHO. It's not just the engine though, as nobber has so eloquently pointed out, there are a few worrying signs.

Like I said, not trying to scare the guy. It just makes me a little fumed up when I see trucks like this with price tags like that and I know what you can buy for that kind of money, I also know how hard it is to put a basket case right and how easy it is to end up buying a basket case. Sure you can replace anything or most things, but when you have to replace just about everything...

thank for the info.. over here in ireland anything over thirty years is vintage and has cheap tax and insurance.. anything over twenty has cheap insurance so thats why i was interested in this one if its not in to bad of shape.. its near 30 years old and would buy me time to restore it.. but at the same time i dont want a wreck.. as for the condition i want it in.. i want it to look well but not pristine as it will be used for hunting etc.. mechanically 100% and body in very good condition when im finished

yes it would be.. im not in it to make a few quid but i want to get it to a good standard without been caught out for something stupid..
i presume like all older cars that came here from the uk back in the day.. ye were hoores for the road salt and wrecked them lol.. we arent as bad here

TBH , That is NOT the way you come across. You were very negative. Now upon seeing the photos of how you messed up ,I can understand how you are angry at having purchased a POS, but rather than playing the idiot in the way you approach this, Why not publish your story with photos to show what can happen. It will be of more value than you being a negative nancy.
