Recently sold my RR thank god, spent most of my time trying to keep on top of all the little repairs it needed doing, so now i fancy a Freelander but i want the V6 engined one, and with auto box. I woud like one around 10k price wise so does anybody have any horror stories if these models? Is the V6 engine a good one to have? do Freelanders have as many hassles as the Rangies do?

If you read through any of the threads you will soon notice ALL Land Rovers are infamously liable to hassles, the V6 is ok if you have your own petrol station, but I think most people would advise a td4.

Well, the V6 is by far the quickest and smoothest model available and as Willo says is available only in a 5 speed auto box. Has steptronic too which is a nice touch for overtaking. It is a "K" series engine, similar to the 1.8 litre 4 cylinder engine which is great when running right and a nightmare when problems come to head. Mine had 38k miles and blew a head gasket. Caught it early enough not to damage the heads but still a very expensive job to get put right. That was the only major problem I had with mine.
V6 is very thirsty. Around town I could just about manage 19 mpg but I didn't hang around. The sound and power of this engine encourage a hard drive ;) On a long run I managed 24 mpg once, just the once mind you.
Would I buy another V6 if the oportunity arose? Would I ever, they're a real beast. If you're used to the fuel drinking habbits of a RR then the Freelander won't be any worse. Don't expect to lose those trademark LR problems though. All LR's have problems. Something to do with being English I think.
 
They are the farstest beast on the block,not a lot can get near them,if its pure power that ya want this is the one. . .:)
 
The thing to watch out for on the KV6 is the variable intake system. This comrises motor operated valves contained in the inlet plenum. The motors fail due to broken soldered joints inside and can be fixed:

The valves in the plenum can decide to fail in some way and this causes rattles on idle. A new plenum is over £500 but easy to fit. So if you come across one with lousy torque under load and a rattling plenum, you have a starting point for knocking the price down!
