here are my questions...

1) are there companys that do complete kit rebuilds supply only??
2) what do you think a rebuild would cost (have an engine, box, bulkheah and axles)
3) am i mad??? lol

What ever your budget - double it!
What ever you imagine the time scale to be - double it!
Don't know about full kits but everything you could want is available. And no I don't think your mad, your other half might though by the time your finished - enjoy. The end result will be worth it.

exactly, wouldnt the world be a very boring place if we all drove the same vehicle??
yep but not everyone has to like everyones motor individuality i spose

outta interest why would u want summit like that ? is it just a posing shopping car?

cos im sure that one in the pic will never see a greenlane or god forbid even some mud

I have just sold my zu alloys and mud tyres to put RR 20" wheels on my 90 as I only use it for towing the off-road disco to P&P sites and down the horse yard and general to and from.
The mud tyres went out of balance everytime I went in some mud and when it's wet on the ground they lock up.

And all terrains ain't any good off road and ain't brilliant on road.
This is my view and everyone is different

and u think some rr 20" wheels and presumeably road tyres will be better:eek:

Ah lads, i dont want to turn this in to a debate about the look. Im looking for info on a rebuild not the cosmetics.

Thanks

depends on how much of a strip n rebuild you are planning i suppose, heres my first 'quick' tidy up

End of the day if people dont agree with how you have built it... so what?? your building it for yourself not someone else.... Im sure some people will berate a 16" lift on a fender.... go figure :)

but things have moved on a little with the new project.... total strip, every nut, bolt, pipe n fitting replaced and some interesting mods...

I don't know of a kit anywhere but remember to think of things like
New bushes all round
New brake pipes
Doors will more than likely be a bit rotten
Potentially shocks, brake pads and discs , exhaust
I guess think of all the parts that have wear on them that generally need replaced as part of normal use and do them all at once at the time of the build

no your dead right, i have a petrol disco for spares. i will be refurbing the axles and all the brakes etc too. upgrading everything to what i can afford. want it 100% under it before i get the toys for the outside.

whoah... wait one :) that includes the original motor, £1500 and some silly wheel n tyre plans, plus i bought the lro station wagon NAS inspired soft top kit from fraze at LRO when they finished the custom build article designing an 110 station wagon soft top

eg the suspension set up is far better than the full monty a certain company is selling and recently had a mag write up on.... £1800?? my cost less than half, soft top custom kit with spare top £2500+ me less than half from lro post feature, if u rush and try and do now now now... you will pay through the nose

if you shop carefully 5k will easily do it (assuming u can spray, weld, and do all the work yourself)

got all my hi tensile socket cap stuff off the bay and most other bits have been bought right place right time over 3 years... which has more than halved the bill

as i said i think 5k would get you a very tidy build.... however a thought for u

why not buy a galv'd chassis, bush kit and build a very sound base and over the next few years do all the fancy bits.... galv'd chassis will last a lifetime and u couldnt get a better start?? i would have done if my chassis didnt need so much modification to suit what im doing

cheers steve
