got head back , passed pressure test , was badly warped but they have sorted it . not bad £55 including 2 heli coils . i getting bits together now to refit , waiting for water pump housing frm ebay . im having problems looking at the rave manual cant open it , ive got power iso but not sure how to use it .
do i need to replace head bolts ???

from what ive been told the head bolts can be used a max of 5 times but the cost of them just aswell buy new ones

not happy guys ..refitted head and ****loads of other bits too find same problem . losing water frm exhaust , warms up coolant pressurizing and starts steeaming out the bak , im now assuming block cracked ,, **** **** ****

You checked that before refitting the head, right ?

no obviuosly i didnt , so it seems ive just spent £200 for nothing , shame because i dont think it economic to replace engine on a 95 disco , another one bites the dust , it owes me £1800 and it only gona get 1 more mot max due to corrosion so im fecked really . just taxed it too :doh::doh:

took off a 1 hole , when i re fitted head realised ther was no valve clearances so had to adjust everyone , runs A1 now smoother , quieter than ever , just pressurising coolant and steaming off , no gud

hhmmm....
is there any contamination in the oil?
at the mo, cant see how water will get to exhaust via block.
how badly warped was the head?
only thing i can come up with given the info here, is either head is cracked or the head gasket isnt seated correctly.
which thread holes got helicoiled?
does it turn over smoothly when you start it, or sound like its "hydraulicing"?
gut feeling is it aint the block.

definately pressurising?
an the steams not condensation from exhaust pipe?
edit.
gasket thickness is determined by piston crown protrusion above the block.
head skimming wont affest this, tho with having it stripped down you'll need to
reset all valve clearances anyway.

they said it was warped quite badly but it passed pressure test , was skimmed and was fine ? i will check oil doesnt seem to be rising .
the heli coils were in top exhaust manifold studs the 2 nearest the back , top right .
starts ok apart from some clonking and banging from starter , which as never happened b4 , but i havent been near it really .
i love the car to be fair , and im fecked without it , some 1 has mentioned "K seal"??

warmed it up for around 30 min while tryin to bleed , thought steam was what was already in exhaust , it stopped steaming great , air in water again . everytime we bleed and top up steaming starts again , must of had 3o litre through it yesterday

were these coiled afer the test and skim?
remove them, run engine and see / feel if owt comes out of bolt holes.
its my suspect spot for hitting a water gallery and exhaust port.

never heard of it
altered your quoted stuff cos it were easier.

i will have a few more hours on it later , i hear what your sayin bout helicoils and they wer done after skimm n test . it the same as it was before really so im wondering if the problem is something other than head ,ive not much experience with engines .
i think ther mite have been an ongoin problem before i had it , i found reciepts in car , 700mile before i had it , john craddocks remove and test head and service over 800 quid . now, ive replaced stat and found that old 1 had been bent so it couldnt shut , just makes me think engine was on its way out anyway , it hadnt been serviced as per receipts , was leaking all over - core plugs etc i replaced those and sorted other stuff , but its always lost water and heaters crap .

I've been following this thread and i feel for you, sounds like a real PITA.

I would get this block out, strip it to its last nut and bolt and start checking, i dont believe an engine can be just 'worn out' although obviously bearings will go, as will piston rings, bores etc, but this does not sound like that. Even if it was just to find the cause it would be worth it, it must be something fundamentally wrong.

I would also check & calculate the correct gasket thickness as a wrong one could lead to too much compression and yet more troubles.

Naturally, i'm not depending on the motor for transport though.

Good luck, sorry i cant be of any help.

If the block is cracked between a waterway and a cylinder when the engine gets hot the crack will expand letting water into the cylinder, the water will be combusted, exit the cylinder as steam via the exhaust valve and out of the exhaust pipe. This MAY be what is happening.
