David, I think you're wrong.
There's good reasons why folk don't simply pass on details of green lanes, where to go and what to do. I don't because most of the local lanes I know are pretty good, not too badly abused and I want them to stay that way. What happens if we just keep posting details of every lane we know? Lots and lots of people drive them and they DO get ruined, I've seen it happen! Look at the lanes given out monthly by LRO ..one in the Dales went from being a nice, easy drive (you could almost take a Nissan Micra up it) with wonderful views, to being a bog that a monster Defender on 37" tyres wouldn't get through easily let alone a stock Defender/Disco/Freelander ... or any lesser vehicles ..
We also put a lot of effort in to make sure the lanes are legal to drive and safe (ish). You, of all people, should know that many people will take the info and use it without checking again. EVERY time I go out I check, AS A MINIMUM, on the local gov website that the lanes I'm using aren't currently TRO'd .. do you think if we gave locations out that everyone else will do so too? If a lane's blocked I'll move the blockage, but if there's a TRO notice I'll not drive it .. do you think a newcomer will even know what a TRO notice is and what they should do when they see one? It's about education and that doesn't mean just handing out laning locations willy-nilly to anyone that asks, no matter how plausible they seem.
I and most people on LZ will gladly and happily welcome newcomers and take them out when we go laning because we then have some, albeit minor, control over them. I wouldn't have let you, or anyone else I've taken out on a run, drive, for instance, off the tracks that run alongside field edges . or if you did your details would have been passed on to Landowner and/or police ... could you say the same of any newcomer who posts on here asking for green lane locations?
If you want to pass locations on feel free, but I won't and I wouldn't recomend anyone else to either ...
