Been my technique on the bikes for years!
Got pulled over by plod one time on my GT550, he spent a few minutes checking it over, everything worked as it should. Docs in order, etc. He said "I suppose I can't give you a ticket for it being dirty" and left.
Sounds like desperation

Would account for only about 25K in first 5 years, and remarkably low corrosion, bar the usual upper tailgate. Some surface but not deep, looking to get a thorough steam / protect treatment done at some point soon, although that looks like a minefield judging by these forums!

Never steam the engine, especially near injector #4. A member put water near #4 before and paid the price.

We were only thinking of that for the main areas of underbody protection, but thanks for the advice. Would never plan to steam an engine bay, especially with so much electrickery kit around it. Worst at the front looks to be just under the battery, possibly a bit of damage from spilt electrolyte at some time. But looks still to be deep and solid enough to wire bush, rust treat, and paint normally. Not so critical on colour there either!

And looking forward to (when time permits) putting the standard wheels on that arrived today. Did a weight comparison - standard alloy plus tyre approx 52lb. The 20 inchers plus tyres that are on there, approx 80lb. So it is trying to accelerate around 110lb more wheel weight - no wonder it feels a little sluggish off the mark! Spinning up that lot is taking a chunk of useful movement power off the performance.
And since Saturday is looking dry, will hopefully get the new brake accumulator fitted and stop the pump running every press of the brake pedal. And, fingers crossed, stop the flash of the ABS and brake warning lights every application too.

Gave Buttercup a bit of quality time and pampering, well, she's worth it. Sometimes anyway when everything is working.
