No they won't old son, banning is very very unlikely. In fact by the time electric vehicles get a proper foothold to even attempt this alternate propulsion via fusion power is likely to take off, which should tell you its many many decades hence from now.

Having owned every model of Landrover made upto start of Evoque except a Lwt and several Freelander1 and a 1 FL2 yes the FL is a 4x4 but is not in the ball park compared with a series or defender when the going gets tough . That doesnt make it a bad car , but its in a similar niche to A Fiat Sedici (I have one ) that I bought to replace the FL . The sedici is fwd or fulltime 4wd with difflock option , and has 16" wheels and similar capability off road . As for land-rover knowing what they are doing because they have been doing it for a long time , there's been a few hiccups along the way , and this new defender shows they have been seduced into the world of spin trying to make people believe this new vehicle is a defender replacement , no they should have called it a Discovery HD . as that's about as far as it goes . Ineos is more honest from what I have read so far . JMHO

If Land Rover had a proper working version of the Disco in the 90's [ not the blanked out windows van they did ] Something like the truck in this months LRO they would have had another winner I recon.

The new Defender may be Marmite to some, and being produced in Slovakia anathema to others, but it is the new Defender. It will grow on us and I for one hope it is a great vehicle and hugely successful.

I don't think the new Defender will grow on us. Just a luxury 4x4 in a sea of very good 4x4's.
It took a lot for the old Series/Defender to become as iconic as it did- 70 years, exploration everywhere, lack of viable alternatives at the time, completely versatile, simplicity of design.
Just slapping the Defender badge on this vehicle does not mean anything in the long term. It hasn't got the history, it won't be exploring all corners of the world, there are plenty of alternatives, and the design is complex not simple. A great vehicle but if they are hoping for it to become iconic like it's predecessor... don't think so
