Ok so I did buy a lemon, to many issues, mechanical and more rot (chassis and body) than you could shake a stick at etc etc.

My issue was having to use it every day for work travel and fix it up at the same time as well as putting fuel in the thirsty old girl, so had to pass it on, but it has given me a taste of the fun they are and how relatively easy they are to work on so I WILL be getting another, but I will be a lot more fussy next time with the condition of it, I have a little run around now so the plan is to keep saving and keep looking for a better one, and if a repair job takes 2-4 weeks off the road it doesn't matter as I have the run around.

The plan is to get one, fix her up if need be and then when done use it.....................

Just like to thanks you guys for your help and advice that you gave with the issues (brakes) I had with the other one, so I will be back....................asap

That sounds a plan mate. I’ve found sometimes I need to walk away from a job on mine and spend the hours i do on the motorway thinking a way around it or hassling members on here for their answer lol.
There’s no rush with fixing then - get half way through a job and see something you don’t like or needs replacing? Walk away and order it - you don’t to get the car roadworthy for Monday morning and can just order your parts.
A word of experience - you will struggle to find one without rot. I don’t think body rot is hard to fix at all but chassis rot is time consuming. I’ve just got my rear wheels back on after a year of axle stands and I get on mine most weekends.
Check these:
Rear crossmember particularly around bushes
Rear alpine windows
Front wings/arches
Outriggers and mounts
Boot floor
Main floor
B and c pillar bottoms
Rear tub and outer arches
Fuel tank strap

Chassis wise most of my issues have been at rear so check:
Spring seat mounts
Fuel tank strap brackets
Any outriggers
Rear chassis cross member
Suspension top mount bracket area - water creeps behind. If metal looks a bit wavy I bet it’s rotten.

Owning a d1 will involve welding. The level of welding will be dependent on above. As mentioned body is easy. Chassis takes fabrication and time and is a lot more demanding. When you buy it, check the relevant project threads and assess rust straight away. Get it protected.

My mate I sold it to is happy as with it though. Mind you he has the time to pour into a truck with a rotten chassis.

Cheers dude, sounds like they were made of tin foil, proper rot boxes by the sounds of things aren't they?, I will do my very best to find a better one ;)

Yeah it just needed to much doing to it, would of loved to do it but it would of been a full resto job which can take years and thousands of quids, the bloke that bought mine was quite happy with it, not sure he looked to closely though, and he was supposed to know landrovers :rolleyes:

So time consuming. I’ve rebuilt probably 80% of my rear chassis

Very very time consuming plus I don't own a welder (but will when need be), so you may of been better putting a new chassis on it then? think mine needed a new body too, so may as well of bought a new one by the time I'd finished it :eek:

Funds didn’t permit that and hopefully it won’t come back. Check the threads before you spend money mate as some stuff isn’t worth bothering. PM me when you get it if you like and I’ll send you some methods and products. I’m no expert but have learnt a lot about trying to sort it over last year

But then your talking full resto with body and chassis :eek: thats before the mechanical side of things, before you know where you are you've spend x amount and have a new truck lol Believe me I've learn't a lot from my 1st mistake and will be much more careful next time, thinking logically it would be better to find one that needs an engine or box rather than chassis/body issues, if you can find one.............................;)
