Hey I did furneux Pelham... in a Shogun... Petrol V8 no snorkel. Errm... engine cut out just before the end but managed to drive all the way through..

Had to be towed out on the return journey though!

Now now G-man... the same fate would have befallen any petrol engine... and I understand landrover do their share of those too!

I think I did alright as it goes... got through it the first time, petrol engine and all that.

any rover V8 that REME get hold of is pretty much waterproof as long as it has a snorkel, there is a guy (in norfolk i think) who is ex REME an re-biulds the V8 dizzy to mod spec and waterproofs them

i went through the ford a couple of times today just after 13:00, i checked out the hole before i went in and its about a foot deep (just below the top of my riggers) keeping to the right (near the depth marker) should see you miss the hole though

My family (on me dad's side) are from Terling. Me Great Grandparents and me Gran are buried in the Churchyard there (me Grandad's still alive).
When I were a lad, and we used to visit, I used to cycle through the ford - no problem!

There were a couple of villagers who still used to run Austin 7s, right up to the 1970's - they were the only car narrow enough to drive over the bridge at the side of the ford.

how deep was it in the olden days then Trew? i was born in '82 so i don't remember the 70s it is a 2' at the moment deeper on the right hand side as you look at it in the vid

I'd say a foot in the summer and 2 feet in winter. Dependin on how much rain of course!

about the same as now then you cant beat a silt/gravel bottom can you

I hear you can give it a damn good fondling though
