I don't recall ever having hot water from the lower radiator hose. When the stat is closed, there's no flow, when it's part open there's only partial flow through the radiator

If hotter water is going to be coming out of the radiator I am sure I will see the temperature go up on my gauge. I know what is normal so any increase other than when going up a long hill would be worrisome.
My point was that you can have an over heat of the engine without hotter water coming out of the RAD as is the case when the water pump fails. No circulation, no indication of temperature rise on your gauge in the bottom hose.

OK, I can see that if there was no water flow. Need to keep an eye on the dash guage then. Maybe I will look into a guage with a thermocouple bolted to the block just out of curiosity.

I use a Bluetooth obd dongle with the torque app on my phone, shows the actual coolant temp rather than the useless idiot gauge in the dash

Around here you get a $335 fine for fiddling with your phone while driving. I suppose you could set it in a holder for constant viewing. Would have to set the phone to not fade to black. I am going to see if I can put the adapter/sensor in the top hose as I don't really think I need as much straight run as they indicated.

It's not clever here either. I have mine in a phone holder at the bottom of the screen low enough so it only obscures the bonnet. While torque is running it never shuts the screen off, handy! I have volts and temp nice and big, don't need anything else

They've tightened up the law over here now too. Massively. It is now a very serious offence to be distracted by any kind of electronic gadget in the car. I can see why but it is so all encompassing it needs applying with care. It does mean the police can act when they need to though.

That's pretty much a lot of cars with touchscreens then is it not?
Menus upon menus instead of buttons...

Pretty sure tesla will argue a nice touchscreen is safer than an old fashioned analogue switch or dial you have to fumble about with
Having been a passenger in a car with a touch screen, I can tell you it's bludy scary when the driver spends his time trying to find the right screen to change the radio or something. I don't even need to look to operate the analogue buttons in my cars, I know where they are and what they do.

I know, there's no facetious smiley :(

I like switches with big buttons and a descent satisfying click ,n a light to tell you that its on ,or off......:D Probably thats why they invented ,collision prevention on cars ,For people looking at the screens n not the road:rolleyes::D:D:D

only so long til the amount of crap overtakes. when warranty runs out they’ll stop doing updates so can’t drive the bloody thing need new one, once technologies bit more intrical they’ll click on to selling you antivirus software year on year so hackers don’t drive off with you

It's already creeping in. Phones have internet access, phones connect into your car, car can connect to your phone. Genuine apps on your phone have access to your car. It's ripe for hacking

Many cars are " connected" as they say without the need for your mobile phone. They can track you wherever you go, at least one murder case has been solved by the record of the vehicles locations (it was a JLR product)
Any of these cars can be remotely disabled at the whim of the maker or the government.

It can indeed become that way.
One day we'll all have a level of income based on our usefulness.
We will buy nothing and be given credits. Your level of life will be reflected on your level of importance.
Why not could it be like this, we rent cars, houses, phones and so on.....

"One day we'll all have a level of income based on our usefulness." so politicians will get nothing:rolleyes:
I don't rent anything, I did have a mortgage a long time ago and a loan for a car but that's it. My smart phone cost £35 including postage direct from the factory in China. It was a last years model, no 4G but as we didn't even have 3G until 2 years ago it was not important. We do now have 4G but only get a signal with an aerial on the roof and a signal amplifier.
