Tried that, can't get enough grip, well , you can, but the acing gets in the way of turning the moley's!

Just turn in small increments that's what I ended up doing as the last eejit had rounded off the Allen socket on mine

Yes, that's what I didn't want to do, but how to get the leverage on an Allen key head is rubbish... Having to push down, and turn... I'll try the small increments with some moles, but I gotta wait for a left hand thread ball joint in the post first!!!! Grrrrrr

buy a set of 3/8th socketed allen keys. like these

Or I have an extension tube that fits over one end of an L shaped allen key.

No hole, so threaded... I presume, and as there were no instructions/direction and basically very little info about the workings of this system, I don't even know if it's left or right threaded!!

Latest update, Paul at Heystee said if I send him the part, he'll replace seals and send it back free of charge. What a diamond. Only trouble is, it's in the Netherlands, so lots of time getting there and back, with no vehicle :-( unless I find a steering rod, and trust my rusty box to guide me...
Also, miss out in servicing it myself, which was the point of getting the seals..

I did write him a long email detailing my gripes, and that was one of them, instructions or advice.. What tools needed... Which way things are threaded, etc... He didn't offer any instructions, but I'll ask him anyway. I'm a little jaded by it now... From original excitement about taking it apart, and sorting the leaks, to how annoying I battered and scraped it trying to undo bolts...
