Hi guys
Just hooked the caravan off after being away and was crusing down the road and noticed my Discovery won't rev over 3000rpm. There is no sudden shutdown at 3000rpm just no more go. She seems to be driving ok in the lower normal driving range( around town). Anyone any thoughts of where I could start.
Cheers Gary

Hi, start with the simple things: new quality fuel and air filters, clean the MAP sensor, unplug the MAF and drive it so...if it goes better with MAF unplugged you need a new MAF or leave it unplugged, is it manual or auto...EGR or not... what year, etc...describe better the car

Hi
Sorry for lack of info. Its a 2002 manual Discovery TD5 and EGR is blanked. Fuel filter was replaced as I had a problem with fuel pump so I replaced it. I'll try another new filter as a starting point. Was talking to a Landy mechanic briefly and managed to prise out some info. He said he would start with undoing the exhaust incase cat is blocked.

Thanks Dave. I'll have a look in the morning. Just changed fuel filter and the bugger won't start. Normally not a problem but typical after the day I've had. Tried the bleeding procedure and battery is flat now. On charge overnight. What do I look for in the wastegate.

I had that. I now top the fuel filter up with diesel before screwing it on, seems to work.

You want it to move freely in and out with a pair of mole grips.

Think its the fuel pump in tank. After replacing fuel filter can't get car to start. Checked fuel filter after preforming bleeding procedure and the filter is still empty.

Try it. Fill it with diesel "manually", screw it on and try again. Nothing to lose!!

Well here I am again, back to square one with Landy not revving again. Went for a full week after replacing the pump. When I was waiting on my new pump to arrive I had battery out to charge. Silly question but could leaving car with no battery in it have cleared something. Think I need to check a few things here like wastegate ,maf etc

Check the waste-gate is free, it only takes a few minutes and will cost you nothing.

Get some grips on it, squirt the rod with Duck Oil/Plus Gas and move it backwards and forwards a good few times. Our TD5 had this a few years ago and it seemed to hit a brick wall at just under 3000 RPM because the turbo was over-boosting and the ECU was cutting the fuel. It has done it once more since.

you could try replacing the boost modulator there pretty cheap and can give symptoms like yours

Will try those few things. Changing the fuel pump and it working for a week must have been a strange coincidence.

Had exactly the same thing. Fuel pump failed it worked for a while, then the waste-gate got stuck. I did replace the boost modulator first but it made no difference.

So tonight I tried the wastegate with vice grips. It seemed to be ok. Then I took the red plug off ecu and it was covered with oil. Cleaned it all out but still the same.
GDM did you get yours sorted?? Going to order modulator next

cleaning the oil at the ECU plug is = almost ZERO... it means the injector loom is gone and the solenoids dont get proper feed anymore... replace the loom asap otherwise you may do everything else in vain
