Good evening,
So the td5 is turning over but won't fire.
4 weeks ago she broke down due to alternator so this was changed and at the same time I started the injector seals, this took 3 weeks as the rocker bolts broke and a whole array of problems. I've built all the rocker up, connected injectors, timed them, reconnected the pipes to cooler and regulator. Purged the system 3 times but it will not fire, just keeps turning over.

I had the ecu unplugged the other weekend to spray out a tiny bit of oil.
And the m & s is flashing, maybe because it's not been started since alternator change.

Is it possible that the fuel system is air locked? Any other suggestions?
Tomorrow I will remove rocker cover and check everything is OK under there but I'm sure I did everything correct

Maybe your battery was hurt by the bad alternator and even charged it hasnt enough power, measure voltage on it while cranking and if it drops below 10V put a new and strong one cos that's the reason...the fact that it turns over well doesnt mean anything as long as there's not enough power left for the ECU, make sure that the crank sensor is well plugged too
 
Will it bump start? Takes the td5 starter motor spiking out of the equation. Would also help if the battery isn't 100%
 
OK thanks for advice.. the battery had a full slow charge, and connected up the jump leads with another car yesterday evening to keep up the power. Will look into a new battery today
 
Measure the voltage while cranking that's relevant, I second that with the starter disturbing the crank signal but i'm not sure how an auto is reacting to a bump start attempt, if it was manual it would have been easy
 
I haven't tried to bump start it before but I'm sure I've read that its not advised.
I will have a look at the volts tonight.
So should the starter be upsetting the sensor, what's the options on this?
Thought I was doing well my landy knowledge but I'm just getting more and more out of my league here haha...

this starter interference in the crank signal is quite common and on manuals happened often to start every time on first bump start attempt but never while cranking and the cure is to replace the starter but i dunno how an auto reacts on bump start cos more factors are involved
 
OK, I've got some ammo to throw at the car this evening.
Thinking of the starter motor, my wife mentioned a few weeks back that when she attempted to start the car it just made a "click" . She got out, checked the battery was connected, tried again and it started. Soooooo maybe the starter is playing silly buggers with me.

A little more info, it only took around 12 hours for the battery to charge. Battery charger on "slow". I'm sure a while back it took a lot longer than that to charge.
 
OK so I connect Battery up, 14.4v. Cranked and went down to 11.1v. All seems OK
Crank sensor plugged in.

I checked for oil at ecu red plug which is clear, all injectors plugged in OK.
I've removed feed pipe at regulator and fuel is pouring through it.
Seems like the starter could be the issue???
Also I've tried starting while spraying some brake cleaner into the air intake (no easy start)


When I timed the injectors after refitting them none of the instructions or manuals said anything about cylinder 1 being TDC.. just the lobe at the top. Is this true.
 
Sierra tells me that 10v is cause for a new Battery.. not sure myself so I'm open to all options.

Maybe I will be divorced by the time I get the car up and running haha

it would be interesting to see an auto bump started, jump starting well enough

you dont time in injectors ,you set a gap, so as long as each is set with its cam lobe fully down its ok, have you tried jump leads
 
Yes tried jump leads this evening, still no joy.
When I was doing the injectors I rotated the engine so that the lobe on the opposite side of the injected was at its max height?! Should the lobe be at the highest on the injector side of the shaft?
 
Yeah, that's how they are. Then back one turn on the adjuster. I'm sort of thinking that the issue is in the injectors area.
But after spraying some ****e in the air intake and still not attempting to fire. I'm sort of thinking... what the hell
