Hello all,

Strange noise from engine compartment. Engine is off (key out of ignition). I can hear a very quite on / off chirping noise. I think its coming from the ABS gubbins on the right hand side of the engine compartment. It really is quiet and you have to strain your ears to hear it.

This was after the car sat unused for around 4 hours...any thoughts / ideas?

Car is a 2002 Disco II TD5.

Its not a 300tdi (just edited original post).

Also, this is with engine and ignition completely off and its not coming from the belt area...

Ah, Mine does that too. Don't know what it is, im assuming its the system cooling of the electronic switching system in them resetting.. >

my bad..
it aint a FBH is it? I know some have them.

have yu tried a long handled screwdriver to act as an amplifier, to get a more accurate position?

if none of the above work turn up the radio i find it makes most strange noises go away and sometimes it even makes lots more strange noises to worry abou

Mine also does this, It don't tend to bother me as long as the abs works. Would be interesting to know what it is, let us know if you find out.

Mine did that too, never worried about it or owt, sometimes it would do it and sometimes it wouldn't

Does the noise stop when the door is unlocked/locked. Can't remember offhand but think mine did when it was either locked/unlocked

Mine wasn't a TD5 it was V8.

Yeah it's the ABS modulator...making a kinda like 'Buzzing' noise, I was having problems with the 'amigos' a while back...thought it couldv'e been related..... but wasn't.
T'is perfectly normal.....why does it do it?? Who knows!!

If you don't have ABS and it does it then it's yer back up alarm sounder fecked.

mine does this too
I haven't noticed if mine does it but there's a certain logic: when you switch on the engine the ABS powers up with a sort of gentle farting noise - perhaps when you switch off again it just sort of lets off whatever it was that caused the noise? (Reabsorbing the fart...?)
