Thanks Biggeee. I already had the parts, but good to check.

I've amazed myself by weldng and grinding the gear stick as JamesMartin suggested.
Does it look OK? I really suck at welding...

Just finished and the jobs a goodun!
No more slop in the gear lever, the gate has returned, and 3rd is straight up etc.

Thanks to those who offered info, especially JamesMartin. Cheers mate!

Now to think about the play in the steering... Got to love a Landrover :)

Top posts lads just got my TD5 last week and looking like I'll have to do this straight away by the time I got from Glasgow to Aberdeenshire gear changes were appalling even worse today on way back from Inverness would hardly go into 5th:doh:
Anyway will get on to this before I go back to work next week hopefully! and then as you say onto sorting out the play in the steering:rolleyes:

beginning to think I should have bought another pajero:(

Well never got into the g/box but did sort the steering by adjusting at the box away into Aberdeen tomorrow to see if I can get the bits for the gearbox. If anyone knows where in Aberdeen keeps them in stock would be a big help:confused:, may just save me drivin around on a wild goose chase

As said by gerryc, top posts.

My already difficult gear change became almost impossible on the way back from the outlaws day after boxing day.

The black plastic bit in post 10 only had 4 lugs on it and 2 more were cracked and broke off when I played with them.

I put it back together and couldn't get a gear at all so got a lift to Simmonites for a new bit and spring clip.

I did it through the little hole the gear stick goes through. It wasn't too hard to get the new bits into the hole in the selector gizmo. I just had a little run round before I put all the rubber and trim back and it seems to work, a bit notchy but at least I can get all the gears.
