Hi again! 2003 td5 auto wont start. Mrs phoned me today as I'm away and the car is now sat in her work car park.

Ignition on all lights come on and go off as they should but turn the key and nothing! It's in park and car has been unlocked and locked lots of times to try for faulty immobiliser. Mate who picked her up tested batt and but booster pack on but no difference.

When shifting gears with ignition on dash indicates gears correctly so wouldn't think it's not recognising park as it says it's in it on dash.

Starter relay maybe?

What do you think? Thanks

Worn contacts, get her to just keep clicking the key to "start" it may take up to ten clicks before the power gets through to the starter
Then take it off and change the contacts.
I had exactly the same and today struggled the starter off.
Tomorrow I'll be changing the contacts and putting it back on if it doesn't rain.

In fact I was thinking of putting up a pic or two of the tools you'll need to get the top nut undone, famously the worst on the vehicle due to inaccessibility. and the other two are right barstewards too.
Of course it could just be the connection on the starter, the lickle white one, has got loose, or the batt connectors could be loose, or the earth could be loose. But I bet it's waht I said. Known fault on these.

If the missus tries this and succeeds in getting it back home and IF you are going to do the job yourself, I'll get back on and put up proper posts to help a bit:).
At least the bits are cheap!:)

All sorted! It was the starter solenoid! It was clicking but I just swapped it out with the air lift solenoid under the bonnet that I dont use and hey presto!

What are these contacts you talk of and where are they please for future reference? Thanks
