Morning,

What's everyone's experience of aftermarket/OEM versions of these for the TD5?

I'm loathed to pay £140 for a genuine one when you look at the make up of it!

genuine oem only im afraid, aftermarket ones are pants, I had a non genuine one already fitted to mine when I bought it, it drank fuel and kept giving fault codes for the maf saying there is a short,
so I fitted a second hand genuine one and its been fine ever since,

Mine keeps failing I think, even the genuine ones. The air-flow reading on the nanocom is showing around 4 no matter what revs it's doing again now with the current MAF only a few months old.


I assume bypassing the MAF will make no major difference with the level of tuning is done to the engine?
 
I only use the aftermarket £29 ones as a standby and validation, it over reads by 25% on idle so its no go in my view unless you want low down performance with undue smoke and poor economy! The MAF only serves a purpose to keep the smoke emissions in check until the turbo boosts, then the MAP sensor takes over and fuels in conjunction with the AAP (altitude and temperature sensor) so the modification that Sierrafery proposes is a valid one to avoid fault conditions, not sure on the impact on economy.

As long as you get an OEM Siemens/VDO one for around £70 you will be fine (it comes out the same factory just not in a Landrover box!)
 
my td5 pump smoke on initial acceleration but clears once boost hits about 6psi I have checked voltage on the maf and at tickover it is 2.1 volts am i correct in thinking this is double what it should be it is de egr so I am tempted to try this mod

yes that's a bit high... provided the engine is at normal running temp with around 750rpm at idle cos you'll have greater idle with cold engine which means greater MAF reading too

..and if you know it's old replace the depression controll valve cos it affects the MAF reading as well
