does anyone know which companies in the uk can properly test td5 injectors? Lots of “diesel specialists” but none of them keen on me being there and say it’ll take a few days which makes me think they’re sending them off. I’ve read the td5 injector isn’t a common type so not many have the kit to properly do it

Cheers, yeah I’m not looking for replacements just to get them properly tested. I’ll give them a ring and see what equipment they use, if they won’t tell me then there’s something dodgy!
Bit of info on thier website...

What information did they give you about your injectors?
not used them for TD5, but they do td5 injectors i asked about them at the time.
VW caddy they gave me a page print out, from what i can remember it had a section for each injector

PDA (some phase dopler thing, they shine a laser through the spraying head and measure the droplets size, volume and velocity)
basically a page of numbers which i did not understand, but helpful chap pointed out which ones were duff and why, It made sense at the time, I could see the deviation in the numbers relating to the two duff injectors it was a few years ago.
Anyway replaced the defective ones and job done.

Diagnositcs on my TD5 showed imbalances on my injectors so got new to replace ( see my project page etc)
Word of warning testing and then reconditioning your td5 injectors will work out more expensive per injector than replacing them for new (TD5 injectors are a bit spesh)
Maybe consider a naocom diagnostic check for injector imbalance first?

Oh sorry I thought you said you’d just had some done. Yeah I did have an imbalance on cylinder 3 but it was running ok at the time. I might be rebuilding my engine so want to get the injectors right first

me too on 3 and 4, hunting on idle grr ggrr grr etc or just all over the place, and not good on power etc.

My imbalance on 3 was around 28-34 all the others were below 10!

Same here on 3 although it seemed to run ok - so did Kent injection do your TD5 ones?

I used these guys when I did my rebuild.

I think it was £40 each for a proper test with a detailed print out for each one.
4/5 passed, 1 was toast £130 exchange.
Little tip, if during your rebuild you have had any head work done, make sure you remove and clean the mesh fuel filter.
Then flush the entire head very thoroughly, you want to ensure that no particles/dirt/swarf are in the fuel passages.
A single piece of FOD can trash an injector.

Many TD5 injectors get blamed, tested or replaced when there is nothing wrong with them. I have been asked to look at loads of them over the years where owners and garages have replaced injectors to cure rough running issues, with no improvement.
I scope the current draw of the starter motor to get a very accurate compression test.Nine times out of ten the engine will be down on compression on one or more cylinders.New injectors cannot repair bent rods, stuck piston rings or cracked pistons etc.(So do this compression test first before having injectors tested or replaced)
Also the cylinder balancing shown on diagnostic tools such as Nanocom or even Testbook are not that accurate on a TD5, unlike the injector compensation values on a TD4/6 Freelander or L322 engine which are much more useful.

Yeah I wouldn’t just replace one without testing first but to prove your point mine is running fine now as was (I suspect) down to a faulty alternator

Hi mate,

can you tell me more about the symptoms and what lead you to the alternator etc?
