Hi all....I have recently replaced my injector seals and washers with new genuine parts after noticing that the oil level in the sump was rising slowly. When replacing the injectors with the new seals and washers fitted, I noticed that a couple of them were kind of loose fitting back into their seats. They all popped back in but a couple of them were only a very slight pop while seating and just didn't feel as tight fitting as the rest. My question is, are there an upgraded slightly heavier seal available for this purpose as the oil in the sump is still rising?....

Hi,

Are you sure your head is not cracked? I used genuine seals (green ) and washers and mine is OK.

There is another member on here who has a similar problem this week.

I would imagine that the head is okay as there are no starting or running problems. I wasn't aware of a similar post this week. I will look it up....Cheers.

, it seems there are two examples untill now... might be something like with the drive shaft seals that LR messed up the original sizes, see this Diesel fuel in engine oil, Td5 happened in september stuff bought from island4x4

Thanks Sierra, always a valuable input from your good self....Did this really happen, and what was the remedy. Do I have to take it up with Land Rover. Was there an official declaration that there was a bad batch of seals manufactured. That was around the same time as I purchased mine although they weren't bought from a main dealer but a reputable motor factors who specialise in Land Rover parts?
 
It happened yes you have my word on it as my old injectors are oringless now :) ... He emailed the supplier and as it was confirmed that they were in original package he didnt even get another answer, for the price of them my friend didnt want more hassle but i'll call him to see if he remembers where they were manufactured cos these days there are genuine labelled LR packs with different manufacturers like from Egypt, India, Hungary, Spain, etc

Thanks sierra....that would be very helpful. They are indeed very expensive. I bought eight of them as the sump oil was still rising after the first time that I replaced them so bought three more to do the job again and it still didn't work out for me. I will check the packaging now to see where they were manufactured.... :(
 
Both the washers and O rings I fitted the other month have Made in United Kingdom on the packets.

just spoke with him on the phone but he can't remember where they were made and he throw them away in his anger :oops: ... what ever it is IMO the supplier can't be blamed as long as they were in a sealed LR pack... something similar happened with the drive shaft seals too a while ago, they had too small ID, all af them except NAK seals, i dont even know i it's not still the same

Checked my packs. Made in the UK.... This is a huge problem as I cannot keep dumping new engine oil and buying seals in the hope that it eventually comes right. Ridiculous situation :mad:
 
yes, a nightmare... as similarity i bought new Hardy Spicer drive shafts due to badly fabricated seals thinking that the shafts are worn after i changed 5 pairs of different brands(genuine included) and they failed in no time being too tight then ended up machining down 0.8mm from the shafts to fit the seals... unfortunately i dont have any good o-rings left to measure them as i gave them to my friend cos i have the feeling that LR messed things up with the o-rings too so the alternative would be to get some viton orings based on the good dimensions

Yes. I see what you mean....I'd imagine it will be very difficult finding O-rings of the correct spec/dimensions in the engineering market. Maybe some company that specialises in Hydraulics would be my best bet. I have some of the original (Brown) coloured O-rings in the shed that I removed when changing the first time. I will see if I can get a mixture together that will give me a decent pop when seating all 5 injectors :(

Why not pull the injectors again and check if the O rings are the right size compared to each other, you may be looking at a different issue.

They are all genuine parts and I didn't notice any difference while fitting them. Like I said earlier, they did pop while seating. My problem was that a couple of them where very weak in popping and felt quite strangely loose in comparison to the others. I will remove the rocker cover in the morning and power up the fuel pump and look for gurgling around the injectors....Cheers.
 
Injector 1 seems to be the main culprit if there is a crack in the head.

Okay....a quick update. I pulled all 5 injectors today and found that number 3 injector almost fell out of it's port. I cleaned it and re-seated it and it fell back in with little or no resistance. Took it out again and removed the seal and replaced it with one that I had left over from my previous efforts. Dropped the injector back into number 3 port and Bingo, I had to push it quite hard to get it to pop into it's seated position. The only conclusion that can be drawn from this is that the Genuine part O-rings are hit and miss when it comes to quality and sizing, and are a bit of a lottery. Be warned....I will update when I am certain that the diesel in oil problem has been resolved or not.....Thanks all.

Yes. I should have but time was against me as her indoors was looking to use the Disco this evening but I will check the diameters of the various seals I have left over when I get a hold of a micrometer....
