The buttons on the heater/aircon do not illuminate on my TD5. The rest of the dash and heater control LCD is all illuminated, are they all like this or is it a fuse or electrical glitch? Its just a bit annoying at night when you can't find the button to turn it on or alter anything

Mine was the same - and annoying it is!

They do illuminate. Its necessary to remove the heater unit. There are clips on each side which must be held in - not easy but possibke (similar to clips that hold in the radio.

Once out - the lights ae obvious.

Yeah i would say it's just the bulbs, hardest part is getting the heater unit out it's a case of gently does it, spring clips on side.

If I remember I took clock and ash/coin tray out just for a little easier access.

Once out you will have to remove screws and split the unit by removing around 6 screws you will then see the bulbs located on the pcb inside. Sounds harder that it is just be gentle.
