Hi all have a problem with starting, starter motor turns engine at a good speed but not starting, not trying to start, tried with jump leads to give more volts as volts dropping to about 10.2v when engine being turned, starts straight away with tow, purged the diesel , pump running okay seems like something not letting injectors fire, any ideas?

I had a bit of a search on internet and found starter motor sparking can effect crank sensor known as noisy crank sensor, I rebuilt the solenoid on starter motor last week and when I took it off seemed to smell a bit like windings burnt but all worked okay, but not been starting like it did 2 or 3 weeks ago, normally instant start but has been turning a bit before starting, will check fault codes tomorrow and see if that helps but looks like might be time for new starter

Do make sure the batt is up to snuff and the terminal clamps are on good and tight, having banged them down the terminals good and proper. ;)
that is what I thought so even with battery good and turning over well tried using jump leads from van and still would not go, I will check battery terminals
thanks Ian

If the volts are low I think it’s about 10.6 volts the ecu will not let the injectors operate. It twill crank at this and lower volts. But not fire what SS quoted is spot on.
that's what I thought problem was bur with van hooked up as well battery 13.2v when turning engine over

Hi just to give the results, new starter motor arrived, my son put it on and now starting on starter motor, so all seems good, just out of interest does anyone know if same thing happens on other than td5 engines?
thanks all for the help
Ian
