Is it cranking over, doing nothing at all or just clicking/clunking?

Are the other dash lights (battery, oil etc) coming on?

hi its cranking dash lights are on when u turn ignition on they go off am wondering if it could be fuel pump? and the coolant light is like that always and never noiced thanks

If you turn the ignition on and wait, can you hear the fuel pump running?

If you can, is it more noisey than usual?

cant say i could hear anything today where u could before its been off the road a few months just a start up now and then ill cheak in morning

Try whacking the tank while the ignition is on. It can often jolt it back into life. Also check the inertia switch in the engine bay hasn't tripped and that the connector on the bottom is secure. You will often find a cable tie on it securing the connector

Are you sure it's the coolant light and not the 'water in sedimentor' light (rhs top from memory) that's on?

If your in-tank pump has failed, the engine can't run properly as there will be no pressure in the fuel system.

hi defo coolant light, pump works runned a power feed had a diagnostic check wont talk to it wondering if ecu could be failed as today looked at it and does not look orignal has rover written on it for start and battery has been falt a fair bit over last few months but the key does lock and unlock it and bonnet got damaged in wind so did not sit down propley so wondering if water could have got into something?? thanks

1. make sure your battery is well charged... put a charger on it over night
2. check plug/wiring of the ECT(engin coolant temp) sensor, if ok replace the sensor cos:
In the event of an ECT sensor signal failure any of the following symptoms may be observed:
l Difficult cold start.
l Difficult hot start.
l Driveability concerns.
l Instrument pack temperature warning illuminated.
l Temperature gauge reads excessively hot.
l Temperature gauge reads excessively cold.

and

The ECT sensor can fail the following ways or supply incorrect signal:
l Sensor open circuit.
l Short circuit to vehicle supply.
l Short circuit to earth.
l Incorrect mechanical fitting.
l Signal fixed above 40 C (104 F) not detected.
l Signal fixed below 40 C (104 F) not detected.

theres a new sensor on last year battery fully charged to me looks like possible immobilisation problem as fuel pump is not turning on with ignition or ecu as wont talk to sykes pickeravant fault finder the car as i the past spoken to it colant gauge light gos on then off when u turn ignition on when it gos off it gos to blure cold then when light gos back on again drops right hard down past the blue part on temp gauge have tryed it unplagged to but as i say fuel pump does not come on anyway dam thing!!! just had it resprayed to grrr

THe sykes pikevant reader probably won't read the ecu as TD5's aren't OBD2 compliant.;)

ah may be that be the problem is did read abs fault 2 months ago mabie down to local landy dealer for a plug in than and see what happens from there

an immobilised D2 wont crank aswell... check fuse F10 and relay R1(fuel pump), R8(main relay), swap them for test with R3(headlamp wash) or R8(heated screen).... and dont neglect what ratty already said about the inertia fuel cut off switch

the fact that the ECT sensor is new is not very relevant if u see how many ways it can fail....but it has nothing to do with the pump though

ok cheaked fuses today f2 was blown in fuse box under bonnet and fL9 replaced and tryed another inertia switch still wont start but now hazards flash when u go to try to start but still noithing

Do the hazards stop flashing after about 30 seconds?
