I have a 2001 TD5 Defender 90 which has been playing up. I have had an intermittent starting issue for about a year now and have changed the battery, injector harness, cleaned out red plug, had ECU off for testing (no faults found) and I’m now running out of ideas.

When pressing down on or pulling up on the shelf that the ECU is mounted on, the relay creaks, then clicks, fuel pump kicks in and the vehicle starts. The issue is that when released, the fuel pump cuts out again and the engine stops. It has also cut out whilst driving and idling.

This is an intermittent issue and doesn’t always happen but always when I least need it to.

I will upload a couple of video clips which show the problem happening. Any suggestions would be most welcomed.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have cleaned the relay contacts and the earthing points under the in the seat box too.
