Hi I'm new to this and hope the post is in the right place, I thought this might help other new to TD5 people (with little mechanical knowledge).
The problem; engine would start first time it would run well for about 15 to 20 minutes or until the engine had warmed up. Without warning It would cut out when slowing down and would be a bugger to restart. After 10 minutes it would start again but cut out at every junction with the same starting issues. The battery is good and there is a new starter motor, fuel filter and engine filters and oil have all been replaced. There was a strangled cat noise from the fuel pump. (Some say its a normal sound)
My solution: A new fuel pump was fitted, the crankcase sensor was replaced and the fuel injector seals were replaced.
The result: The engine runs very well and does not cut out, the parts cost approx £350 and my mechanically minded son did the work. (1 day 2 people) We are not sure which of the above jobs solved the problem but the means justified the end and the strangled cat has escaped from the fuel tank. Maybe someone could say which of the jobs solved the problem or was it a combination. The crankcase sensor was replaced because the old one was covered in oil and looked knackered.
