Hi I'm new to this and hope the post is in the right place, I thought this might help other new to TD5 people (with little mechanical knowledge).
The problem; engine would start first time it would run well for about 15 to 20 minutes or until the engine had warmed up. Without warning It would cut out when slowing down and would be a bugger to restart. After 10 minutes it would start again but cut out at every junction with the same starting issues. The battery is good and there is a new starter motor, fuel filter and engine filters and oil have all been replaced. There was a strangled cat noise from the fuel pump. (Some say its a normal sound)
My solution: A new fuel pump was fitted, the crankcase sensor was replaced and the fuel injector seals were replaced.
The result: The engine runs very well and does not cut out, the parts cost approx £350 and my mechanically minded son did the work. (1 day 2 people) We are not sure which of the above jobs solved the problem but the means justified the end and the strangled cat has escaped from the fuel tank. Maybe someone could say which of the jobs solved the problem or was it a combination. The crankcase sensor was replaced because the old one was covered in oil and looked knackered.

Good result! It was probably injectors seals. Mine did the same. Lucky you have a handy son, my 5 year old daughter isnt much good with the tool set....yet!
BTW did he notice any fuel stains around/under the fuel tank? Ive just had to replace the rear fuel pipe set as the old ones had two leaks!

Nope no stains on the tank got a few leaks underneath from diff seals but nothing too bad the diff seals are this weekends job. Thanks for the info on the injectors that wasn't too bad a job to sort such an annoying defect. Fuel pump change is a bit tougher. I can go further than the supermarket now.

Thanks for the reply and info changing the pump although expensive has stopped the screeching. How often do the injector seals need changing is it preventative or reactive

Just having a quick lunch break from my fuel tank clean out and refit with new fuel pipe "loom".
Looks like my pump had been changed at some point, as whoever did left pieces of the old fuel pump inside the tank!!!

I would guess a lot of TD5s probably ran on the original seals for many years.
But if I was keeping mine Id probably do them every 2 years.
