I've got an oil leak from the cam cover gasket on my TD5! Are they easy enough to replace or is there something I ought to look out for?

It's easy enough but not straightforward. It's not a flat gasket like on TDi 300, it has a half-moon shape at the back of the engine which can be a real bugger to get seated correctly.

Good luck

Dave

in passed have used a bit of grease with this type of gasket to hold in place before seating in place. 16v vaux used to a nightmare on rocker cover seating

And if it's not been done already it might be worth changing the injector harness at the same time the cover is off. There's a PITA bolt at the back of the rear acoustic cover, you can slacken it off and push the cover back a bit to give more clearance for refitting.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but aren't there some locating dowels for the cover as well which need care when removing & refitting?

Hi
I just did mine recently, it is not difficult.
The bolts fit in plastic top hats, these need to be re-fitted carefully.
Just make sure they are located fully before you start tightening the bolts
One of mine was burred over which may well have been why it was leaking!

it helps if after cleaning gasket groove well you stick gasket in with rtv silicone sealant and let dry for 1/2 an hour, and feel rear half moon in place

it's a good practice to replace the sealing grommets too... 13 x ERR7266 , they help the bolts to grip he cover down better... worth that money
