After a bit of investigative work with a watering can i've found the leak into my footwell in heavy rain is from the top seal on the bulkhead vent. I've had a look for some replacements but there seem to be 2 different part numbers. Does anyone know which one i'll need to fit a 2000 (W) 90 county Td5??

Cheers

They're pretty much the same price but i don't wanna get the same one and continue to get ear ache! The occasional episode of wet feet doesn't bother me to much but the mrs doesn't seem to like it!

well she better get used to it as i doubt even a new seal will stop it. if you want you can silicone around the outside of the vent. thats stops most of it... but then you cant you use em. cant have everything!

A mate of mine draught excluded his windows by painting the frame side of the openings with cooking oil then put a bead of silicone sealant round the window side and shut the window when the silicone had set it made a perfect seal and the windows still opened.

Just thought I'd share that with you.

BINGO. Excellent idea that Mr Grunt. I suppose you could then put a bead of that sticky backed draught excluder foam around the inside of the doors so they have some chance of meeting the rubber door seals.

You'll probably find it coming in other places as well. I replaced my vent seals (original parts the best), door seals. Most of my leaks came through the roof panel seams though. A hairline crack can easily appear which is not necessarily visible. As the roof is flat a slight hollow appears (l can see a puddle onmy roof now as it is raining) of that hollow is next to a crack in the seam it will get in and run down into the inner gutter and then into the front a pillar and down into the footwell area. A smear of RTV has sealed these and so far nothing getting in! This is a fix that no dealer has been able to use! At the same time I have sealed the windscreen mount seal, the wiper spindle mounts and new gaskets and joints on the dummy hinge brackets. My next target is the windscreen rubber.

Incidentally I think the 2007 models have a two piece roof as opposed to the old 4 without the longitudanal seams on the rear section. It has only taken LR 20 years!

even after you change new seals, you eventually face the same problem after a few months.

What i do is, simply put some transparent book wrap over the inside of the vent with a lil extending downward so that the water that drips in flows out. i can remove it in the drier months and still use the vents.

solution cost - $2
