I think I`ve narrowed my choice down to a Defender 90 TD5 (if i can get one at a good price) and was wondering what they come with, i have read of anti stall, ABS and TC. Do all TD5`s have it all or was it introduced from a certain date, any ideas.
Unless it's an XS or similar top of the range it won't have TC or ABS unless the original buyer specified it as a cost option but it should have Anti Stall as they all had it. Try taking your feet off everything while driving in high 2nd, as the engine starts to labour you'll feel it pick back up as the Anti stall kicks in.Pretty sure mine has none of the above
You can still stall them, it's nowhere near as effective on the Td5 as the later Puma models. Still handy at times though for trickling over slippy stuff with no revs. Just so you know, dipping the clutch or using the accelerator will override and disengage it.

I have heard that the ECU on the TD5 is vehicle specific - so if it blows you can't go to a breaker but have to go to LR for one programmed to your machine? Can anybody comment?
Also is the ECU proper OBD11 compliant, or some bodge up like the Lucas 14CUX on my softdash?
The ecu is programmed to your vehicle, you do not have to go to main dealer you can get a used one and get that programmed. When i had mine remapped he replaced the ecu rather than solder in the new chip on site, he may well have backed up the info before replacing it though.
Probably 2002 model year at a guess as the engine changed from the euro III (10P engine) to the euro IV (15P engine) version, not sure on price difference.
