Evening all, the rebuild continues and we have got the point of ordering more bits. The pistons in my engine are ERR7179, I am being told I cannot get piston rings for these and so must buy new pistons.

Is this correct? I find it hard to believe. Anyone had a similar experience?

Turners reckon they will fit but not seal. They were quite unhelpful and expected me to buy new pistons just to be on the safe side. At £450 for a set of pistons I’d rather try and get the right rings for them.

if the bottom skirt or ring groove on the piston is worn change the piston

also remove the rings from piston and install rings inside the cylinder measure your ring gap you might not need new rings

piston ring groove if the ring is to loose and out of spec or the wrong ring used can cause piston to much ring twist (TORSIANAL TWIST ) this is why they recommend just replace the piston to be on the safe side as pistons do wear also and not just the rings

do you have any pics of the block and cross hatching condition ? and a rough estimate on the mileage
