Richard c . . . sounds like yer maff is the 1st place to start if you disconnect your maff , see if you get a better performance if so then your in the right direction, others have fitted another type of maff ,and i cannot remember its name but it works out cheaper, there are a lot more problems [common] beyond that, most of them have been on these forums, keep us all up to date on yer findings and best of luck. . .

Can it be they took Pierburg instead ?? (Overhere some 75 Euro+VAT against 225 Euro+VAT for the Bosch).

Hi ming,

Thanks for the compliment (which it is I hope ?:D :D ), was not aware somebody already installed Pierburg instead of Bosch, any results known so far ??

ok could be wrong on this but as far as i know you can fit a pierburg maf [ think its from Mercedes and also used by vw] if ya can get the right part its compatible and a lot cheaper, but as yet not found anyone who,s done it [still searching] also trying to find out what its internal resistance is at room temp , know its like a thermo coupler with a diode [ so it will only measure one way] so any other info on this would be a help. . .:)

http://45zs.info/pierburgh.htm Try this some usefull info , if on clicking the link and ya get page cannot be found [ earth puter glitch], just look for the 45zs.info on same page ,and click on that and it should work , then look for the pierburgh info. . . :)

Great site.

Having got no where with this one, a site that proves I'm not imagining it!

My wife has a TD4 es 2000X with about 55k on the clock and I have been growing increasingly concerned about the low revs performance.

I really was starting to worry about pulling away into to traffic...the only advice I got was that possibly the air is rarer on top of hills/mountains and this is likely to effect the turbo performance....I live in (flat) Suffolk!

I have today disconnected the MAF and eureka! We have acceleration. Is the next step to have the MAF unit replaced? I am not a mechanic, so do I have to go to the dealer or can my regular mechanic do the job (cheapest option preferred!)

Loads of niggles when we first got it, rear window seal replaced 5 times (the lock box in the back was always full of water), sunroof motor went etc but then generally ok for last few years until this. The gear box feels a bit clunky to me but I only drive it occasionally. Are there any other things to be looking out for.

Thanks again for a great site.

Welcome Richard 005 , yes your maf is kaput i would recomend going for a pierburg maf and fitting one of Rover Ron's gismos, you can do it all yourself no problem , E MAIL him or give him a ring he knows his subject and wont blind ya wif science and stuff ,or go on his web site, think he.s got an add on here if not just go through some recent threads and then you'll start to understand the maf problem, there is other things that can also effect loss of power but as you've hit the increase by the disconnection and an increase you've found yer fault, this by the way is only my own thoughts, its your call, best of luck. . .:)

Also on the same subject. . . the td4 has a lot more power to give and a lot do not realise the potential of pure power that is not used in this bmw motor , and so dont be fobbed off that this is a slugish diesel far from it, think its up with the best, its just a matter of getting the best advice, then go for it,but its your call. . . . :) :) :)

Just replaced my MAF sensor on the strength of reading these comments.
Engine performance is not just a 'bit better', it has totally transformed it !!

I have had this problem as discussed in another thread but this one seems to go into a bit more detail.
Having disconnected my maf sensor I cannot believe the amount of power I have with it disconnected, the thing I have noticed is that others have said they have had 3or 4 sensors without it being rectified so wondered what are the consequences of just leaving it off, I know it affects fuel consumption but by how much I dont know. And if a new one was fitted would I get even more Power?
thanks.

The only experience I have with a faulty MAF was a couple of years ago, after it was replaced I got all the normal power back again, since then it's still ok. Never driven the car with the MAF disconnected, so don't know how it feels that way, whether it gives full power in low revs or if you're in for more power after the MAF is replaced.

We should gather details. rally together and complain en masse about this - much more power than individuals dotted around the country, as the impact gets diluted.
My 04 is doing exactly the same with only 13k on the clock
I agree, Land-Rover have just slammed me with a £3,000 invoice for replacing the head and a new set of injectors all thanks to washer fluid getting into the wrong place and fusing the injectors in place! LR didn't want to know about it and it's only done 57,000 miles!

Same probs as others on this post. Has anyone got the correct part number for the Bosch MAF? I took the sensor out and the sensor number is F 00C 2G2 029 but I need the Bosch 10 digit part number (prob for the whole unit, not just the sensor). Any ideas on where to source one for a reasonable cost?

Hi,

I think (hope) the Bosch part # is: 09.28.400.357

Good luck.

The path I was going to walk if I need to replace my Bosch is to get a Pierburg and a mafam box from Ron, both together will cost less as one Bosch plus that further Pierburg ones will cost a fraction from there on.
As far as I know the prices are:

Bosch maf 225 Euro + VAT
Pierburg maf 75 Euro + VAT
Mafam75p 86 Euro all included. (postal charges UK --> Belgium inc. as well).

Hi, in reply to coxby's post above, the washer fluid can leak from the plastic pipes supplying the w/screen washers, depositing it right on top of the engine and gets to the injector area and corrodes them in,causing a great deal of grief (as explained by coxby),if they ever need to come out.Moral of the story is to make sure you have no leaks here, and maybe spray a bit of wd40 around the injector seats to try and stop any problems in the future.(note, tigapiglet wrote a post on this last year).Best Rgds.
