I have to change the front driveshafts on my 2006 td4 and have been quoted £98 for both(oem parts not fitted just brought of the web) I have read on here only by oem or original parts , so does this sound about right ? thanks
 
sounds cheap for the pair

OEM are around £150 each
you can get GKN for £150 with a 2 year warranty from lrdirect

Thanks for the reply's lads these are from John Craddock I was ordering a hose for my sons 1.8 and got chatting and according to the guy I spoke to said they are that price because they buy loads of them , they have a two year warranty and they are according to him oem.I will need to ring back tomorrow for some more hoses for my sons car ( he needs the hoses for the three way "thing" that connects to the bottom right of the rad) and find out that the price he quoted me was right , they are oem and he had add vat . Makes a difference

I have always been amazed at the differences in prices for drive shafts. The OEM ones are better but they and LR are taking the p**s. How GKN can charge 5 times as much and LR 20 times is ridiculous.

The non OE are easy to spot. The OE inner joints have 3 distinct scoops out of the sides from the forging process. This requires the use of a special shaped gaiter to seal the joint in these scooped areas.
If the inner joint is circular in design, like the outer CV, then the shaft isn't OE and more likely than not, will cause vibration.

Sound like the OEM ones fitted to the 2001 Freelander I have....
 
is it possible just by looking at there web site which are oem and which are not?

Yes you can tell by the picture. Those Britpart shafts aren't OE, which would be GKN.
The OE shaft inner joint looks like this.

This is an end on picture with the tripod joint removed. But you can see the joint casing has a really distinct shape. Only this shape inner joint is a GKN joint and GKN was the original OE supplier to LR.

So in essence what you are saying is not to bother with brit parts and only get GKN parts ,i have to ring them to see if i can get just the hoses for the thermostat housing for my sons 1.8 .The hose that connects to the bottom left of the rad has perished , i will ask about the drive shafts as well
 
quick update i phoned them and they do not do GKN driveshafts :( as you said that dose sound cheap
 
Quick up date on this I have brought some from a place called ebt this was through word of mouth and on internet it does say
"EBT are a leading brand of OE Specification Wheel Bearings, CV Joints ect
From what I can find out shaftec do not make them for the Freelander one any more
@Nodge68 they are not the same shape as the GKN parts:( fingers crossed I have not made an expensive mistake there , thankyou all for your advice I will report back when they are fitted I think on Thursday

"EBT are a leading brand of OE Specification Wheel Bearings, CV Joints ect
From what I can find out shaftec do not make them for the freelander one any more

I bought recon GKN drive shafts from Eurocarparts and they were much better than the aftermarket ones. I was using them on a lifted Freelander which vibrated like a ladies toy on the aftermarket ones.
