I'm sure that was a wolf in the classic shot of Sadams palace doors going in!
The main problem with LRs in the gulf , or anywhere else seems to be the British Army underfunding squaddies equipment budget, something they are rectifying by paying them more to go into action armed only with a banana or some other fruit.
Anyway , i was in the pub the other night, guy i know ,but haven't seen for a while comes in. He runs a national company that hires out all types of 4x4 , and he says.... 'We've got over a hundred Frrelanders , not many 1.8s i siuspect, and they are a good truck!' They can't all be bad, there are some marques he won't stock.I don't think he has many Jeeps. He runs a FL commercial himself and thinks it fine.
I was not referring to the Army's Land Rover's m8.In fact it was the Range Rover's and Land Rover's belonging to company's like ITN and the BBC.They were the laughing stock amongst other reporting teams in the Gulf.I cannot understand why people are so quick to jump to the defence of something that is quite obviously not up to standard and yet they feel it is their patriotic duty to rubbish another marque just because they don't like the name.I have owned both a Jeep and a L/R Freelander and am speaking from my own experience,so what am I expected to say, that the Freelander is a trouble free, reliable, fantastic motor car and that the Jeep is a pile of rubbish.I don't think so.I will buy another L/R when Landrover as a company admit that the faults on this unreliable, badly designed, excuse for a car actually exist and offer the customer reliable service and repairs, rather than making stupid excuses for their shortcomings.Something else that should not be missed is that L/R are in fact owned by an American company. If people are of the masochistic genre and like to be crapped on,then who am I to interfere with their wishes.:confused::confused:

bog off Disco - we can slate off our Hippoos if we want - yu get back to pickin holes (rust holes) in your Tractors

that flypaper bloke needs to realise that the gaylander is a bmw and if he'd bought a proper landrover with a chassis he know it far better than them yank things...ere daft **** man did you really spend over six grand in a year on yer paperweight???
i bought a jag for less than that and not had any real problems with it, cept when a hose burst and due to me not wanting to stop in a dangerous place managed to bust the hg and warp the head. other wise it only been service items and a steering rack leak..and thats been over two years and countless zillion miles.

yup - think I mite have detailed it elsewhere but...

bought for £6500;) in 11 Sept 2005
spent £3819.47 on it (excluding tax, insurance, petrol etc)
sold for £4016.47:( on 6th Oct 2006 (so its 13 months - not 1 year!)

costs in 1 year = £6303
first job was viz valves (manifold - £700) "no probs we keepin it for 5 or so years so pay up..........." i gave up in the end - as yuz all know.

you know how some people think that the gaylander is the best selling 4x4 ever..i was thinking maybe it is... they probelly only sold about 4000 of them as complete cars but when you take into account all the spares that have been sold you'd have enought to make ...say..another 10 brazillion gaylanders. from what i've read enginee and g/boxes are service items on them

do yu also count how many times one has been sold i.e bought new - problems sold on-bought - find probs - sold on-bought etc etc etc.

by my reckoning that would up the actual hippoos by a factor of 6 or so?

"best selling" only means peeps will buy anything if it looks good!

"best selling"......
"Practical Fishkeeping, the UK's best-selling aquarium fish magazine."
"BBC Music Magazine - The worlds best selling Classic Music Magazine."
"Toyota is just rolling out the new Camry, the best selling car nameplate" - who wants one of these?

mmmmm! could be , but that would make my old rover 2000 TC the most sold car in the history of cars.... i passed it on to a second hand car dealer and he sold it 15 brazillion times...
..
the 'o' ring at the dizzy was fooked, oil got past it, then blow on to the exhaust, where it burned, the fumes then sneeked up past the gearstick gaiter and filled the car with smoke.. it also had self lubricating rear brakes.
so every tilme it got sold they had it less than a day before they took it back to him
